I bought this knife for my daughter last year when she turned 3. She loves to help out in the kitchen, and this allowed her to take another step toward helping with meal prep as well as cutting her own food at the table. In the kitchen she chops vegetables for soups and other dishes. Carrots and potatoes are her favorites to cut. She has even managed to cut very thin carrot slices with it. She's never had any kind of injury from this knife. The blade is made such that it would be pretty difficult to cut skin, but I wondered if it would slip off of a carrot and cause a blunt injury of some kind. Hasn't happened. She's able to cut all kinds of raw and cooked vegetables, as well as cooked meats, though this takes a little more effort and does not produce a clean cut. The knife has held up well over the last year's worth of washings in the dishwasher and still looks like new. It seems very well made and my daughter loves it. I highly recommend this for children who are ready to start learning knife skills. Read more

The media could not be loaded. Love these knives. My 2.5 year old was upset that his knives didn’t cut and he couldn’t prep dinner with me. I love the design of the dog. The first use he understood not to touch the dogs face (the blade). Amazon won’t let my upload a second video showing that will it cuts food (mango in the video) it doesn’t cut skin. I’m buying a set for my mother in laws house Read more

Works well for my two year old toddler. It cuts veggies fairly well but the serrations aren’t sharp, so gives me a piece of mind. Encourages kids to learn slicing motion as opposed to just pushing down. Read more

I have a five year old who always wants to use our big chef's knife--but she is definitely not coordinated enough to do this safely, not least because she tries to chop as quickly as she sees her parents doing it. She is loving these knives. They're well made, sturdy, and sharp enough to cut some firmer items like potatoes (particularly with the serrated blade). We had previously purchased some of those brightly colored plastic knives that you see for kids to practice but honestly they're worthless--they can't cut through anything with more substance than a strawberry. Very happy with my purchase! Read more

This knife is slightly smaller than the dog knife with teeth. Both are great products, easy for the kids to hold, fits nicely in their hands, great story to teach then the proper way of cutting - keep the dogs nose to the board, watch his eye as it goes up and down, no fingers in front of the ears, and hand status in front of the tail (look at the knife and this will make sense) Read more

The handle is kid size, the design makes teaching knife skills easy (thumb on the puppy’s ear), and it’s sharp enough to cut without young vHolstein just forcing the knife through the food (dangerous habit!). We learned about these from a nonprofit children’s food program (they do tastings and let kiddos help with recipe prep) so I knew how to teach proper skills and that you should start with the serrated blade as it encourages the back and forth motion versus the flat blade. My 3 year old can use it with supervision. I set up his hand and re teach the motions before he does it by himself. This is real metal, not plastic so it has the right weight and sizing. Read more

These are fantastic for teaching kids basic "sharps" skills. Easy to handle, fun and totally safe yet they really can cut slice and snip without putting little fingers at any risk. They can cut things as solid as raw carrots, mushrooms and radishes yet cannot cut fingers. Its not that there is a guard ( there is ) but they somehow found the perfect width blade that cuts hard foods (and soft) without being a flesh threat. Plus the cute shapes and bright colors appeal to kids. sturdy and easy to handle even for a 3 yr old. My kids LOVE being able to help with prepping dinner with these.. Read more

I am so pleasead with this knife. I have a 6 year old budding chef and this knife is very easy for her to use. I was worried about the sharpness but it is almost a "dull" serrated knife so that even if you rub your fingers aginst the blade you wont get cut, and it actually does cut through fruits and vegetables. I would not use this for peeling at all, and you do have to make srue that you precut the pieces for your child. The blade is much smaller than I had anticipated - think of a small paring knife, just a few inches, and it is difficult for her to say, quarter a potato. I have to cut a potato into long strips for her to dice. It is a great first knife for a child and so adorable. It makes them feel so grown up and it really does help cut down on your prep work!
