FANTASTIC product! Fast. Efficient. Easy to clean. I've already used this to make the most delicious strawberry lemonade and I'm always thinking of new ways to use it! It's easier than taking out the blender and works much better than a traditional grater. No wonder this has such good reviews. So glad I got the large one, but I'm still considering getting a small one just to have an extra. If you're going to spend your money in the kitchen, spend it on this. Read more

A friend of mine told me about this grader after she did a research on graders use to grate ginger root. I had just done a research on ways to use ginger root as food. I liked the idea of ginger root tea but didn't like the preparation of it. This product is great for grating the ginger root and is so quick and easy. The juice of the ginger collects in the troth around the outside edge. I didn't even know ginger root had that much liquid. It grates it up very finely. I have tried grating a garlic clove also and it works like a dream too. Before this I used a micro plain to grate it. It worked ok but it didn't produce the juice and took longer. With this produce you can almost use just one hand. It has a skid proof botton that works well. It cleans well too. I have left the ginger over night till it dried out. All I had to do was put it under hot water and use a tooth brush and in a few seconds it came clean. Read more

This is THE perfect grater for ginger if you want to avoid ending up with clumps of shredded ginger that most graters produce. And the 3.5" size is ideal (grater portion is 1.75") for ginger root. If you're going to grate something that's larger than ginger root, the next size up is probably better. (Don't order the cheap version from a different manufacturer/seller that sort of looks like this one - mine came broken in half and was a piece of junk.) This one is happy going through the dishwasher (top rack) and has a silicon base that prevents it from slipping on countertops. Read more

Pros - Compact and functions well as a grater. - The ceramic teeth are safer than other graters - Raised edges to catch any juice and grated items - Easy to clean Cons - The large sized grater is not as efficient as the ceramic teether are further apart. The Small sized grater has teeth that are closer together, enabling more efficient and fine grating - Relatively easier to break compared to stainless steel graters. Don’t drop it! Read more

I never really thought I needed one of these, but recently I've started to make more dishes that requires me to grate ginger. I have graters, and microplaners, but they a royal pain to clean up, and doesn't get it as fine as it should be. Decided to order this one after a failure to make good soup dumplings the week before. So, I have to say, that, this is the best kitchen gadget I've bought in the past year. Not only did it make grating my ginger a breeze, but I've found a new love for using this to finely grate garlic to toss into mashed potatoes or into my meatballs. This one is a good size, the rubber on the base keeps it from slipping around, and if you accidentally get too close while grating, it's not going to take you skin off, so its pretty safe to use. Clean up is a breeze, just rinse it under water and any of the fibers that stuck to the teeth wash right out. Would buy again if I ever need a replacement. Read more

I disagree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said that the smaller one is much better. They both have their uses but if you mainly want this for ginger the larger one is for you! I use the smaller one mainly for fresh nutmeg and it works great for that. For decent quantities of ginger though the small one is way too small. As you are grating you keep running into the smooth trench around the edge which makes for clumsy grating and the likelihood of your fingers slipping and yes the teeth are sharp enough to grate your fingers. The teeth are closer together on the smaller one, but the teeth are also MUCH lower too, so the job takes much longer. I have included a photo of both sizes so you can see the difference. The larger one allows you to grate vigorously. The smaller one is pretty useless for ginger unless all you want is a tsp or less and even then it takes twice as long! Out of curiosity I timed myself using both graters doing it as vigorously as I could and in the same time that it took me to get 2.5 teaspoons of ginger with a large grater I was only able to get 1 teaspoon of ginger with the small grater. A handy trick I discovered if you want less of the ginger fibers is to freeze your ginger before grating. The fibers then completely break down as you grate and you are left with pulp with no strings attached :) The larger one isn’t so good for hard things like nutmeg though as the teeth dig in further and the going is much slower and it’s easier to skip off the teeth with the slickness of the nutmeg and grate your fingers. So the small one is definitely best for very hard small grating jobs (honestly I only use it for nutmeg and am a bit hard pressed coming up with anything else it would be good for) The larger one is for anything softer than nutmeg and is much more multipurpose! If you don’t grate fresh nutmeg just save yourself some money and opt for the larger one! If you grate fresh nutmeg and ginger then you really need both. I have had mine for years and there is no reduction in grating power - behold the wondrous strength of porcelain! If this review has been helpful to you would you please click the helpful button?
