Easy to use, easy to clean

Raphael UzielJuly 2, 2023

I've only done rice in this so far. I was tired of spending money on precooked rice that wasn't that tasty. And what about just cooking it the usual way on the stove. Nah! Too much work to cook, and especially to clean for a lazy guy like me. This little gadget, however, is great. The rice comes out great every time. Real easy to use, but for me the big thing is the cleaning. This is very easy to clean! I'm the one who buys a kitchen gadget, uses it once, then ... BUT, this thing I use every week! Now I haven't tried brown rice yet, but there is confusion about the water to rice ratio here. As you can see in the photo, it looks like 1 cup rice to 5 cups of water, but right above where it says (5 cups) it says 600 ml / 20 fl. oz. Well, 20 fl. oz. is 2½ cups NOT 5. And to those who love the metric system, 600 ml is ALSO 2½ cups NOT 5. Either way, a little trial and error will get you the proportions that work for you and your microwave. Please note: I used the instructions given with the Lekue NOT the instructions given with the rice. The instructions given in the package of rice did not come out well at all. Also, I have a 950-watt microwave, and I used it on full power even though the directions that come with the Lekue say they used an 850-watt. Now if you have a higher power than 950-watts, you may need to lower the power. 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀𝗲: Continue to love it! It is the only kitchen gadget I ever bought that has been this useful for so long (other than plates, forks, ... :) 𝗕𝘂𝘁: I tried it with brown rice, and here it is just okay. The time stated in the instructions are way off. The instructions (unless they finally realized their mistakes and fixed them) say 18 - 20 minutes. My bag of rice says closer to a full hour at half power. Could this thing actually make brown rice in less than half the time? NO! Unless you happen to like to eat raw, wet rice that is. I prefer my rice cooked, but hey, that's just me. The actual time is much closer to an hour than it is to the 20 minutes they state. And I ended up having to add a little water every 5 minutes (I started with 2½ cups water to 1 cup rice). Bottom line is that at this point I will take out my trusty old pot and make brown rice the old fashioned way. I debated taking one star off, but despite all this I just can't! I mean, a few weeks ago, I finally gave away my salad spinner after having used it exactly never, and my air fryer, which I used I think five times. This is still a fantastic, simple and useful thing that has stood the test of time. Read more

Great Cooker when used correctly. Burned food or bowl = Operator Error

SoloMay 14, 2025

An excellent microwave rice cooker despite the negative reviews about burning. Like all plastic cooking devices this one will melt if the food gets too hot. The instructions clearly say to periodically check the food is to ensure the food is wet. This keeps the cooking temperature well below the plastic melting point. The only way food burns or the plastic melts is if the cooking food no longer is moist. This will happen with any cooking appliance. I ruined my 15 year old Lekue cooker by mistakenly including too little water when cooking, and not periodically checking, basmati rice. Yes, the rice burned. Yes, the plastic base melted. Yes, dinner was late. Yes, it was my fault. This is a great microwave rice cooker when used properly. Read more

My favorite gadget!

SLEJune 6, 2019

I've had the previous version of this for years and I use it all the time. I recently decided to get another one but I couldn't find the older version. A bad review scared me off from the new one for several months, but when I still couldn't find the older one, I decided to give this a try... I'm so glad I did! It's basically exactly the same! It works perfectly for me for rice, grits and oatmeal. It's so easy and cleans up in a snap (simply wash it immediately or soak it until you get time to wash it). No one in my family can cook rice correctly, so I got one for several family members and they love them, too. Read more

This burned in the microwave

It worked well for about a month. Today there was a burning smell and when I opened the microwave, it had melted down and burned.....acrid smell everywhere and dinner spoiled. Read more

I like it

Ad KatzMarch 19, 2021

I used this to cook a cup of rice. I decided to try it because I didn't like the way my other microwave rice cooker always overflowed and made a mess in the microwave. This does not make a mess and I could remove it from the microwave using my bare hands. I followed the directions in the instruction book, and my rice turned out on the wet side...next time I'll try adjusting the water. Make sure to adjust the power level of your microwave if it is more than the 800w noted in the instructions. It was also very easy to clean. Read more

Almost Perfect - unsure why people aren't raving about this more

J.K. YoussufJune 28, 2023

It's very easy to figure out how to convert the recommended duration in the microwave if you don't have the same power rating as the instructions - just under shoot and keep adding an extra minute until you find the right spot. And when you get it - the rice is perfect! I'm not sure why other reviewers are complaining about this so much; though it would have been nice if the instructions provided a table to simplify this a bit. I was shocked to learn that my microwave could be this useful! A few things you need to know: * The plastic is pretty high quality and doesn't transfer dish washer soap taste to your rice * This is easier and better and produces more flavourful rice than the ceramic mugs you find online or at the dollar stores/daiso type places. One MAJOR caveat is that even though you _could_ wash this thing in the dishwasher, its design makes using the dishwasher very challenging, because it accumulates water in BOTH orientations - if it's the right way up, then water accumulates in the basin area designed for the rice. If it's upside down, then (less) water accumulates in the crevice designed to holster the top when you store it. This is entirely unnecessary and makes washing it in the dishwasher a pain - because now you must wash it sideways, meaning that you need to leave a big gaping whole empty all around it, so the water guns can reach it at an angle. Would still recommend it though. I now hate using my other rice cooker and instapot for rice. Read more

Great for rice storage.
