Updated: this product works well, the razor blades are lasting very well. I wasn’t getting a super close shave, but it protects from nicks and cuts extremely well. I have had none in 4 months of daily shaving. To get a closer shave, I add about 20% liquid soap or shampoo to the gel that I have dispensed. I do this in areas where I am unlikely to get cuts, and use the product full strength around the ears and chin, where I would more likely get cuts. Because of this, I have upgraded my review to 5 stars. This product seems to provide excellent protection against nicks and cuts, as well as a very close shave. There is, in my estimation, a lot of drag on the razor. I used another product that worked very well, and the razor glided nicely over the skin; however, it is always out of stock on Amazon. The other product at least quadrupled my blade life. I will report back on blade life when I have used the Level 3 product longer. I would have rated the other product as five stars. Level 3 does have a good “barbershop” smell, but it seems to leave a film that comes off with soap. Read more

I use this gel almost every day for work and I’ve been using it for many years now. It’s still works great and does the jobs for me. It’s smooth and works great for lines ups or edge up and touch ups. When I’m doing full shaves I use shaving cream and sometimes the cream dries up I use this gel to reactivate the wet moisture to keep going with the service. It really helps me with timing no mess is smooth no irritation or ingrown bumps ( depending on the type of person or hair) Not everyone has smooth straight hair that will not cause razor bumps. Excellent shave cream. I used to use King Gillette as I liked the minimal cream so that I can see where my razor needs to go and this product is better than King Gillette -- which is no longer available anyway. So minimal odor, economical and it certainly works as it is highly lubricating and produces no foam at all. 5 stars. Read more

Ive been straight razor shaving 30 years. I have very thick facial hair and low stubble that I bald out on my head but it's also thick and full on the back of my head. So I tried shaving with fusion 5 and this gel on my head, it was OK but it gels up on the blade but shaving cream is still better on the head. So I won't use this on my head. You could use this on the head if u don't have anything else, But this gel absolutely does great with straight razor on the face. I woke up, no shower, just ran water and started shaving. So normally that kind of shave I'll bleed a little bit. This gel does real nice for a cold shave so I can only imagine how much better it will be on a hot shave after a shower or in the shower. I was very impressed with it as a cold shave with no heat prep. And that's as harsh of a test your skin can have with thick beard and any razor. This gel is a keeper for straight razor shave. It doesn't run either like cream when it pools up on the blade.. It gels up holding all the hair in the gel formation until u rinse the blade. I just hold under water and glide my finger across and it cleans real nice.. With good water pressure you may not have to use fingertip wipe but I dont mind because your going to want to wipe your finger any way from the gel while pulling your skin..
