I have had this heater for nearly 4 years, and I am just now writing a review. I like to use things for a while first. However, I admit this is rather ridiculous. Anyway, I love the heater. I have purchased multiple Lasko brand heaters. This one has lasted the longest. I use this heater in my home office area, which is off my living room. I work 6 days per week, approximately 8 to 15 hours per day. My heater is running nearly year round. My desk is by two drafty windows with a vent behind it. Year round, it is often chilly by my desk. So, depending on temp and season, my heater runs anywhere from 7 to 13 hours per day for 6 days out of the week. It is quiet. It does not overheat. But it certainly heats up fast. I'm usually sweating within minutes, sitting at my desk, which is when I hit the oscillating feature to circulate the air. Going into my 4th year strong with no problems. Great product for this much use. I could not work as effectively without it. No concerns or grievances from me. Read more

Works great and is very safe! I own two of these for the rooms in my house that seem to get a little chilly. Quiet and effective! Read more

We gave this a good month before reviewing. I got this for supplemental heat in the finished basement. I was tired of freezing while working, and the kids were cold watching tv or playing. I had seen reviews warning about electrical outlets, so also bought a surge protector to go along with the purchase. We have had no issues, while maintaining a nice warm environment we can actually enjoy. I doubted weather this small unit could actually provide heat on the far side of the room, yet it does just that. We are quite pleased and I am glad we went with this space heater. The remote is nice as well, and user friendly. We leave this running for about 6-9 hours a day, depending on activities and outside temperature. It is not left on unsupervised, as I am a bit paranoid. I have noticed no odors, or signs of overheating, and it automatically shuts off (after a cool down) when the area reaches the temperature I choose. I like the oscillation, as it seems to disperse the heat in a broader area. Read more

I purchased a Lasko 5160 to provide electric heat in our 32' travel trailer while connected to shore power in Spokane, WA in winter. Works great to heat the trailer - temp got down to 15 degrees one night, and we never had to use propane heat (although I DID have to adjust the trailer's thermostat down to 65 to prevent the gas heat from coming on.) I like the quiet oscillating feature, good heat projection/distribution, and the fact that the (plastic!) grill on the front of the heater doesn't get very warm at all, but there are a few things I DON'T like: 1) The thermostatic (Auto) function only works on "Hi", so the heater draws the full 1500 watts when it is set to Auto. I had to add a dedicated 15 amp GFCI outlet for the heater because all existing outlets in our trailer are on one GFCI because you can't set this heater to Auto + low power. Needless to say, we have to do a lot of "power management" with the heater turned on Auto, because running a coffeemaker, microwave, etc. in conjunction with the heater's 1500 watt load can trip the trailer's 30 amp main breaker. Not usually - but it does happen. 2) When power to the heater is disconnected or the heater is turned off, when power is turned on again, the heater remains off, and it doesn't "remember" the fact that it was "on", that it was set to Auto, or that it was set to oscillate. 3) There is no indicator for the "oscillate" function - you get left to guess if the fan is set to oscillate, or it just isn't oscillating because the Auto function is being used and the room temperature is warm enough to trip the thermostat to "off". The Lasko 5160 is a good buy, but it would be "great" buy if Lasko would address these issues. Read more

Last year I purchased a smaller, lower end Lasko and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. Now, granted, I live in the South where temps are not frigid, but on the few days the temp was in the 20's, I still found it was enough heat for me and used this as my only source of heat. This year, I purchased the Lasko 5160 Ceramic Tower Heater with Remote Control to eliminate physically taking the heater from room to room. This is a little larger than the lower end model and puts out more heat. I keep it set on 67F which keeps me at my personal preference for warmth. I use this one between bedroom and bathroom, so I can hit the remote on cool mornings to warm the bathroom before taking a bath; the smaller unit stays in the living room/kitchen area. The MOST pleasant surprise was in my electric bill. My bill went down $75.00 per month; I only heat the room I'm using at the time and also use ceiling fans to keep the heat off the ceiling. I couldn't be more pleased. I do not have children at home but do have a medium-sized dog, so I keep the heater on an end table with cords safely and securely out of paws reach. In the spring, they are easily packed away and require very little storage space. Oh, and I have small hands and have no problem with the built-in carry nook; it's much better than not having a carry nook at all. As far as keeping up with the remote, well, that has to be a force of habit I suppose. The remote hook on the 5160 model is nice when packing it away in the spring, so it all stays together 'til the next winter. Read more
