I could not be happier with this purchase. I had been looking for quite some time for a leather messenger bag that could handle my laptop, portfolio, papers, tablet, etc. in capacity while being durable and not over priced (I tend to be hard on bags). Many of the options that I had found were $250-$400 in price, which was more than I wanted to pay. I started hunting through Amazon and stumbled upon Passion Leather. I will admit I was at first skeptical; typically you get what you pay for and if it looks too good to be true, it likely is. Given that Amazon has such a great return policy and the reviews were pretty solid, I went ahead, bit the bullet and bought the bag. It arrived well packaged (the norm with amazon) and in a colorful cloth bag. When I took it out of the plastic, it did admittedly have a strong leather odor, but not an offensive odor. Once I got to exploring the bag I was shocked at both the craftsmanship and the amount of space it had. Everything that I carry on a daily basis fit without an issue and I still had room to spare. The leather was stiff at first but as it has aged it has worn beautifully with the softness you would expect of the highest quality products. In my typical fashion I have been hard on the bag; it has been tossed into my office chair, rolled around in the floorboard of my car, set on asphalt, etc. all without a single blemish. I still after almost a month of ownership have yet to max out all of the space. The odor has basically disappeared and I am left with a bag whose quality far exceeds both my expectations and the other bags I was looking at. One year ago I got my Bros. Leather bag, named The American, stolen out of my car. Inside was my passport, voice recorder, a two books I was reading, and an expensive DSLR camera. Yet the thing I missed most following the theft was the bag. Especially when I saw that Bros. Leather no longer made that model anymore. Nearly a year to the day later, on one of my many searches trying to find the perfect replacement, I found Passion Leather's 16 inch messenger bag. It honestly seemed too good to be true. The right size (plus an extra inch of width) and at almost a third of the price! I was, understandably, very suspicious. How could this be? How could this gorgeous bag be so affordable? Still, comforted by the incredible reviews, I decided to buy it. Having received the bag and now having had it for almost a week, I'm ready to say that my suspicions were unfounded, and I am now excited to buy many, many more bags from this wonderful company. Let's start with the zippers. I know, what an insane thing to say. However, I think that the zippers in this case let you know a lot about the designer and company behind this bag. They use YKK zippers, widely known as the best zippers in the industry. Made by a seemingly vertically integrated and very secretive Japanese company, these zippers are lauded for their reliability and their functionality. That this bag manufacturer took the extra step and expense to source these zippers while still keeping their cost so low honestly blew my mind. Having examined every line of stitching and every rivet on this bag, I can say that the craftsmanship is way above industry standard, even above my old Bros. Leather bag. This bag comes standard with a handle and a shoulder pad, which some places will charge extra for. Currently, I have my bag loaded up with my Mac Book Pro, six books, pens, business cards, utility knife, chargers for laptop and phone, and I still think I have room for whatever camera replaces my old one. This is a bag that can do it all. The strap is a bit wider than I was expecting, but given the size of the bag I think a narrower strap would cause issues with balance and durability. A few days in and the strap's broadness doesn't bother me anymore. Many a good bag has been ruined by bad straps. Also, not to keep slamming Bros. Leather, but this bag has a padded laptop compartment! Again, all of this for much less than their similar bag. Some people may be thrown by the fact that the bag arrives a lot paler and stiffer than the photo on this page. However, if you read the card included with the bag (side note to shout out the fact that this bag comes in a really nice cloth bag with a hand-signed note!) then you'll know that the bag will, over the course of the first few weeks, age into itself. Less than a week in, my bag is already noticeably softer and darker. I'll take some pictures as time goes on and post them to this to show the progression. In summation: wow. This bag delivers hard on every promise. If you're like me and want the perfect 16 inch bag that is functional, stylish, and build to last with care and consideration for every detail, do not let this price or even the threadbare Passion Leather web site throw you. I purchased this back in early February 2025. I did have some initial concerns after reading some of the negative the reviews, but decided to take a shot as I needed an new laptop case for work and the positives seemed to out-weigh the negatives. This bag/case travels back and forth to work every day. I can only speak to my experience, which so far has been great! The bag is very well made, the leather is thick and durable, the zippers and clasps all function smoothly and well. The distressing is perfectly done and the color is beautiful. The interior lining is holding up very well too. It's plenty roomy for my 17" laptop and then some. It has more storage areas than I need or use, which is a good thing! It did have s smell of fresh leather when I first received it, but that was to be expected. My wife has MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) so I kept it out of the house until it off gassed. It now has a very subtle smell of quality leather if you put your nose right up to it, but that is the hallmark of a fine leather product. I can only presume the smell, subtle as it is, will only continue to fade overtime. All-in-all, I am VERY pleased with this product and align with the other positive reviews. This is my 4th leather bag from Komal, and frankly the only manufacturer that I'm buying from. The only reason I needed to replace any of them was due to increasing laptop sizes. The bags were all in good enough shape after years of less than gentle use that I've been able to hand them down to my kids. This bag arrived exactly on time, well packaged in a fine linen bag with the ubiquitous thank you note from Komal. The leather is thick and stiff and is sure to last for years and look better after time and use. The interior fabric is now a plaid nylon style that is very attractive and appears like it will last longer that the green canvas in all my other bags. The strap is adjustable and appears to be long enough to give unlimited carry options. There are lots of bags out there, but at this price point there isn't any that will give the value this does.
