Great for a reward calendar anytime of year!

I purchase this every year for my nephew & Oct. / Nov. kids gifts as it’s something fun for them to look forward to. They get so many toys that the parents appreciate a gift to open later. I have also used them as rewards for the kids as an incentive (good behavior/bringing home a complete work packet from school) even though they are Christmas themed the doors are numbered so you can use it anytime. Each day is individually wrapped so each build stays together until you are ready to build. Sometimes the pieces build on each other but they are all independent builds as well. Most of them are extremely simple and don’t take long to build but the anticipation each day is the real beauty of this calendar. I do feel like this set is more for boys. The Lego friends set is great for girls. It has more of the food and little animal figures which my daughter loved. Although the calendars are a little pricey, I feel like it is overall a good deal since the kids seem to enjoy each piece more than buying a larger set. Read more

Awesome and fun!

This is our second year with a LEGO City Advent calendar. We love them! I have 2 boys (ages 6 and 3) and they look forward to this every night! They are so excited when they get to open one of the doors to find out what they get to build. The quality is great, as it's LEGOs and the directions are detailed enough on the inside of the door that we can build them. My boys love to play with them and make up their own stories. Some of them come with extra pieces too, so that's great. Especially the little mug of hot chocolate as the hot chocolate piece doesn't seem to stay in the mug! We would definitely recommend! Great for older kids who like to create.

Super fun for the family, I saw this back in November and I impulsively got it because it was so cute. Fair warning tho, if you have little little kids this might be difficult, the pieces are so small and some of the items are amazingly complex to put together. Very cute and very fun... a good pre Christmas present for a 12 year old. I have had Advent calendars my whole life and this is a good alternative to give instead of chocolate ones. Read more

My favorite of the Lego Advent Calendar sets

iiiireaderSeptember 3, 2018✓ Verified purchase

The City Advent Calendar is the one that I chose each year. I'm also getting my grandson his own set this year as well (he turns five this month and is doing builds way beyond his age level already. I had also picked up a Hot Wheels for him but, once I saw this set, I decided to give him the hot wheels for his birthday month instead of for the holidays. This year is another fun one with lots of builds and five minifigures (this does not include the robot or the snowman). Last year there were six but I am okay with one less as some of the builds are going to be lots of fun. The box refers to three other Lego kits that potentially coordinate with the toys in the calendar. Those kits are all really expensive, so if you are looking at this for a child and want something to go with it, try looking at some of the smaller kits that are available. The product description shows a breakout of the actual items included. I opened my set to verify that each window had a bag (I've had a kit miss one before.) I've also had pieces missing or a bag swapped out. Lego is great at replacing whatever is necessary if yo contact them right away. In addition to this set, one of my other favorites in Lego is to put together Christmas dioramas with the special winter scene sets and the City Advent calendars. I have a traditional train but may want to do the Harry Potter version this year. I'm starting to add these around my modular building sets to have an entire town. Legos are simply a lot of fun to play with and my grandchildren are having a blast with them. At their house, they've taken over the dining room as their Lego build room and they are only almost five and two years old. Be sure not to throw away the box as it is part of the fun. This year the box opens up an area for vehicles to play. There is a monster truck track, a helicopter landing pad, a race car straight track and a view from space. While the area is not coordinated together, it should prove lots of fun for kids to play with each of the elements in the set. Read more

Cute LEGO Advent Calendar

happyladyDecember 27, 2018✓ Verified purchase

My kids loved this Christmas advent calendar. As they counted down each day before Christmas, they took turns opening the doors to the bag of pieces. The photos were easy for them to follow. I have a 4 year old and a 7 year old. They had a little bit of a hard time opening up a couple of the perforated doors on the box to get to the pieces, but overall they had fun making the simple pieces. I loved the variety of things they could build each day. Read more

Great idea, but needs some work

We bought several of the advent calendars for this season. First, great idea instead of candy. Kids really loved seeing what they can build each day. The Star Wars and Friends ones were very good, but the City was lacking. Couple of items in there was meh at best. I would probably get two Star Wars versions next time. Also, the packaging could be upgraded, some of the parts did move around (the extras would float around the box) because my kids put the completed items back in too keep. Read more

Great idea. Good job legos.!

My son asked elf for a daily gift if he was good every day before Christmas. This was the perfect gift from elf to ensure that happened. Every morning we would open the door for that day and assemble the pieces into whichever little figure or item it was for that day. It was great playing each day with a new item; Added that little bit of extra fun each time.! Will buy again next year, assuming legos is still his thing. Read more

Our favorite advent calendar

HollyJanuary 23, 2019✓ Verified purchase

Our boys are 18 and 20 now and we still all love the Lego Advent Calendar. We've gotten one every year since they were little. Last year we got the Star Wars one, but this year the Star Wars one didn't look to have anything that set it apart or that was significantly Star Wars, so we went back to the traditional City one. It has never disappointed. Well, that one year there were cops and robbers in it was kind of weird... I can't always find these in stores and I love knowing that if I buy it before December, it's always a good price. Read more
