We bought this toy for my daughter's second birthday. It's been a success, as she plays with it every single week, if not every day. ASSEMBLY: * For the first few months, we had to help my daughter assemble the tracks, but at 2.5, she now does it on her own. The track parts have a lot of slack and fit like a puzzle, making it very easy to put together. * It was the first duplo set we bought, but there are enough pieces in there to have some fun building blocks. My daughter found it difficult to assemble the blocks at first, but a few months later, she does it herself. TRAIN USE: * The train starts at the push of a large button on its top. Easy enough to use from 1 year old. When the train falls, hits any object or when you pick it up, it stops. The train will also stop on its own after a couple of minutes. So it makes it safe and does not drain the battery for hours. My daughter loves to run it off-track in the living room. The train will go until it hits a wall, lots of fun! * A particularly nice addition is the gas pump. The train had a small hole for gas at the top, and when the pump is entered in the hole, the train does a funny "gloop gloop" sound. My daughter loves it! And it's been good to help her practice her fine motor skills Read more

This is probably the best purchase I have ever made! My son has played with it for hours and hours and I can see it getting many more years of use. Really well made and so many different ways to play with it. Would highly recommend to anyone. It is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for. The quality is great and my son (3 yrs) loves it! my 2.5 year old is train crazy. he loves this set and plays with it all the time. the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because i don't understand why legos are so stinking expensive! yes, they work way better than the generics but why should a box of plastic molds cost $150? Read more

Within an hour our 3 year old grandson was in tears because his train had pinched his skin and left an ugly bruise on his leg! Read more

We purchased this Lego set for our 4 yo grandson, who has other Lego blocks orginially used by our children. The set is labeled as appropriate for 2-6. I must say that it would be an exceptional 2 yo who could put this thing together. The instuctions are confusing because they show products not included in this set and require the purchase of other sets to complete what they show. Also, some of the blocks don't snap together securely so when you go to pick it up to move it, it falls apart. This is not a good value and a disappointment coming from a premier company like Lego Read more

My two children got this train set from Santa this year. At 5 and 2 they each love it! The train can hook up with a lot of the lego wagons and they will move around on the track with the train... my 2 year-old loves doing this. I did find myself wanting more track... the 5 year old wanted more because the picture of train set-ups shows different variations if you have different sets so she could see what she was missing out on. In the end I bought a couple of boxes of straight and curved track.... and then ordered the push train set for the switch track along with the other track pieces as well. It is hard to find something that my kids (a girl and a boy) both enjoy that they don't fight over and this toy has been well worth the money spent for that reason alone. Read more

My boy is 30 months and he loves this set. I have a few suggestions for people who buy it: First, you'll want to use epoxy or hot-melt glue to fasten the green parts to the engine. Although it's cool to be able to exchange these, in practice they just come off every time you try to lift it. Glue it and forget it. The same goes with the gas station - it's better to glue it all up and keep it whole than to always be rebuilding it. Second, you will want more tracks, but Lego doesn't give you a huge choice in tracks. You can get some more straight and curved pieces, but you'll soon discover that you need junctions or crossovers. Lego doesn't have this very worked out. If you want to go to the next level, you'll have to buy a number of different sets and put much more time and effort into designing a track configuration, which is good when the child is 4 or 5, I suppose. It's nice that the trains and trucks are compatible, so getting trucks is a good investment. Finally, it works wonderfully with rechargeable batteries. One charge lasts three weeks at our house. It's best on a floor (rather than carpet) and stays together nicely. I highly recommend it for 2 years and up. Read more

Okay, It's christmas and I had to tear myself from the fun to write this review. Thats how great this toy is. We bought it for our 2 yr old who has the toy story duplo train already. They fit the new tracks!! We set it up the night before so there would be no waiting christmas day. Our 2 yr old can assemble the tracks and use the pieces but may need help in the design. He can push the button himself but sometimes needs help getting it on the track. It has kept him busy all morning and the 5 yr old would have liked it as apresent as well but we got him the 6 and up ones. we will be buying more duplo trains for the birthday for sure! Read more
