We’ve picked up several LEGO Mech sets, and they’ve all been a huge hit with my son. The builds are consistently well-engineered, with great articulation in the limbs and clever use of parts for armor and weapons. He loves posing them for battle scenes, and I appreciate how sturdy they are for active play. I remember the smaller sets used to have a handful of plain bricks, and maybe some bars or wheels to make a blocky car. Nowadays we have cool sets like this with lots of interesting pieces with lots of potential for SNOT techniques and articulated parts. At around $12 on sale, this Rocket Raccoon mech is a good buy, it'll give any young builder a few ideas for new build techniques using technic plates, bars with towballs, pins, swivels, etc. The mech has enough articulation to make it expressive. The revolving stud launcher is rad, that's my favorite new part, just as fun as LEGO pullback motors. LEGO has gotten expensive over the years, but luckily you can still find gems like this on discount. Read more
