This set was surprisingly, way cooler than I thought it could be. I mean. it's a lumbering sand crawler and didn't play a big role in the movie except to bring a few characters together. I passed on this model many times because it didn't look like a fun model to build. Boy was I wrong! First of all the model designer, Olav Kroigaard did a superb job of engineering the way this model goes together. The hatches, access doors and interior could not have been done better or with more thought to fit and finish. One of my favorite parts to build and watch function are the tracks. They are fully functioning, steerable tracks that complete the overall look and when pushed make a delightfully realistic "Tank" sound on the table or floor. Many of the pieces and collected droids are strategically placed in loose fitting boxes inside or stowed on hooks adding even more to the rumbling, rattling effect of the re-purposed ore hauler that now serves as the Jawa's home on treads. There are two working cranes and a front drop down ramp that is lowered by draw bridge like chains operated by a thumb screw on top. The removable top sections allow access to the interior as well as the 4 side sections that fold up. Even with all these movable sections, this model is rock solid. From every angle, there is no doubt this is an accurate representation of the sand crawler from Episode IV. I could go on and on but I have a vast desert to cover and lost droids to find. Read more

I gave this as a birthday present for my 9-year old son. He really gets a kick out of telling you what age the kit is intended for and that he put it together all by himself. I'm not a collector of Lego kits (although you'd think otherwise if you saw the bazillion Lego pieces my kids have) so I can't and won't comment on how this ranks with with other kits in this series, but I can say this is a really nice kit. My son loved getting it and putting it together over the course of a few days and he still plays with it 7 months later. It's been relegated as a "showpiece" kit in our house, so he's not allowed to take it apart or else it would soon decompose into 3,296 Lego pieces and be consumed among all the other Legos he has. The half-life of Lego kits in my house can be very short if rules aren't imposed. Of course everything fit together perfectly, just like every Lego set. It's got a lot of moving pieces on it which makes it pretty cool and I think it tips the scales at about 84 pounds (just kidding, I think it's 83). It's pricey, but if you're a Lego collector I don't think price matters, you guys will buy anything. If you're buying it for you son or daughter, they'll love it. Read more

It's Legos people you can't go wrong. I enjoyed the build. Only complaint is the book. Dark paper with dark colored peices don't mix well. Have to be careful when picking the right brick. Read more

I had the opportunity to help my 7 year old grandson build the Sandcrawler (this is the new edition) over a period of several hours a day for several days. The instructions were excellent, and the picture of the ship on the box was helpful. While it is recommended for age 14+, with help a younger person can build it. My grandson and I always do "Quality Control" checks, where first he and then I check the parts for tightness and correctness. It is very important to keep checking the parts to be sure the pieces are fully secure before placing them. It is also very important to check that the piece is an exact replica of the pictured finished pieces. Once my grandson made a part with the opposite bearing, and we had to take it apart. When such errors occur, it is important to pick them up as soon as possible. All in all, this was the most enjoyable Lego that we have built! The finished product is sturdy and beautiful. Read more

Pieces continued to break I would move it and there would be small pieces broken off under it. Then a couple of pieces broke in half while I was building it. Read more

What a fun Star Wars set to build. I am a hugely nostalgic fan for the original Star Wars films, and so building this set was such a joy. The design/layout is superb and incredibly rigid. Can’t say enough about how impressed I am with this. My wife and I assembled this set over the course of a week. We would put together a few bags each night til it was complete. Super enjoyable and a little challenging at times as well, but the finish is fantastic! Read more

Now THIS is a lego set! I'm sorry (no, I'm not) I don't understand why people complain (b-word here) about the price of lego sets. Okay, so this one is $300 bones ... yes ... THREE HUNDRED! It's well under the $.10/piece rule. Comes with a million guys. Oh ... and when is the last time you bought ANYTHING at a store for $300 that you knew ... not hoped .... KNEW ... would have all the pieces (and some extras), would work, would go together as it was supposed to, and not break into a million pieces just by looking at it? Exactly. So forget you all you "Lego's are too expensive" people ... this is for the people that know what's UP!!! And what is up is that this set is AMAZING!!! It comes with an instruction BOOK! Not a folded in half pamphlet stapled. A bound freakin' BOOK! Has a history of the sandcrawler thing in the beginning. And then about 400000 pages of instructions. My 6 year old (who is a genius) is putting it together with a little (honestly, very little) help from older brother and Dad. All in all ... for $300 ... I challenge you to find a better lego set.
