Really one of the best lego investments when it comes to money : time occupied. My 8yr old has been building it for about 4 hrs off and on (my fault because I told him I'd handle the sticker placement, yes I'm a perfectionist, I collect legos myself and crooked sticker placement gives me the heeby jeebies). So sometimes he had to wait on me to put stickers on. Other than that it's kept him fully occupied. Should also add that he has very pronounced adhd and for him to sit with something and focus for this long is not a frequent occurrence. I think I helped out twice to correct something that was placed incorrectly and got him stuck, but generally speaking I would say this is definitely appropriately labeled as for 8yr olds. He really enjoyed it. What I also love about this set specifically and why I ended up choosing this above other technic sets is the moving parts. Great for all those starting with Lego builds. Even if it breaks it's super easy to put back together. My nephew had a blast building it and has now built a love of Lego while he's only 5 he says he wants to be a builder when grows up and I know he doesn't know exactly what that means or what type of builder I hope to buy more and more of stuff like this to keep his interests peaked. Super fun build! The pay function is a bit rough though, the rubber band that is used to lift the garbage cans up requires a CONSIDERABLE amount of force with such a tiny grip on the thing, I imagine kids struggle to play with the feature unless you happen to have a more loose rubber band to use in place of the one that comes with the kit.
