This is it. This is the set around which the entire world of Middle Earth revolves. This is where the Ring of Power comes into the unlikely hands of a Hobbit. For those who love the books and the movies, this is a must-have set. Put it on your desk at the office. Put it in your kids' stockings or Pascha (Easter) baskets. This one set so beautifully captures the essence of the story. Here we have the forgotten Golem, victim of his own self serving love, confronted with Bilbo, a selfless Hobbit who has left his own beloved home to aid those he never even met in their quest to return to their home. Here they meet in the stinking depths of a Goblin underworld. There they come face-to-face with each other, and in their meeting the history of Middle Earth is changed for all time. Then of course, after you get this set, be sure to read the books if you haven't already. You will thank yourself for it. Read more

Ever struggled to buy a man a stocking stuffer? Running out of ideas? I bought this for my brother who's 30 years old and he loved it. He was so excited to open a toy in his Christmas stocking I thought it was hilarious! Out of all of the expensive things I got him these Legos were the ones he loved the most. Read more

It was overall worth it and a fun and easy set to build to pass time. I enjoy displaying it and look forward to other small inexpensive sets similar that are small and easy to build. Read more

I bought this more for the iconic scene it represents than the set itself. Gollum looks creepy in his boat, and Bilbo looks tiny and innocent as you'd hope. The rock section itself is ok, with the opening doors and ring-revealing mechanism being a slight bonus, although not making too much sense in context. The opening doors can be a bit fragile if you try to open them from the wrong part. Overall I'd say this is perfect as a memoir of an epic event, rather than full of play opportunities. Read more

I purchased this lego set for my husband about a year ago. He loves it so much that it sits on his desk at work! He isn't a Legos fan per se, but he is a big fan of The Hobbit. This gift was perfect for him and would be perfect for anyone else who enjoys the Hobbit. Read more

As I was assembling the boat, the edge of it broke while I was attaching the piece. For the price Lego is asking for this set, it is ridiculous. What happened to the quality of Lego. Read more

the details are here even if the value isn't. I haven't done a scientific study of cost to pieces lately, but this one seems a little skimpy on bulk for the price. Read more
