This was kind of a joint gift for me and my wife a couple of Christmas's ago. I ended up building most of it, and I will say it is probably one of the harder Lego models I've put together. Some parts of the instructions are a little vague, and that doesn't help when most steps are having you add on 10 to 20 pieces at a time. Most of those pieces are tiny, where you'd normally expect a single large brick you'll get 3 small plates that essentially build the same thing... So your part count is high and it's a little tedious, but it's very rewarding at the same time. The only issue I have with the model is the bumpers, they fall off way to easy. And if you are thinking about it for kids, it's probably not a good idea. It isn't really functional once it's complete (the wheels are locked in the straight position, it's not like a Technic model where everything moves). It's cool to look at, but I don't think I'd find it much fun as a child. Read more

Four working days to assemble... mostly because i didn't sort parts very well. Had so much fun watching it take shape. Highly recommended if you're a lego fan who isn't into all the Star Wars kits, and don't feel like building another house. Read more

My mom is very fond of the Volkswagen Beetle and it's her dream to own one. The real one is horrendously expensive in India (USD $46,000). So I bought the Lego Volkswagen Beetle for her on her birthday. To begin with, box came all right and no missing pieces. Instructions are clear and accurate. Building it was interesting and not monotonous or a drag. I particularly loved building the roof and the bonnets of the car. While yes, a more curved roof could have been more challenging, I am equally happy with the roof and it does look fabulous. The end model is very accurate, a delight to look at and is a purely a display piece. It cannot be integrated with your other Lego sets. Looking at the cons, I would have loved to see more details for a limited edition, commemorative set. To begin with, for the Volkswagen logo, you need to put a sticker. For an officially licensed, commemorative set for Lego's 50th anniversary I would have at least expected a Volkswagen painted brick instead of a sticker. Also, the commemorative plate with the details, is once again a sticker! A printed plate would have been nice. Finally, though no points cut for this, I would have liked working headlights or something around that. I feel Lego has great potential towards making licensed, commemorative sets iconic...just need to work on it more. Read more

This was a real joy to assemble. I have it displayed with hatches closed, but for this Amazon terrific price, I'm buying another one to assemble and display with hatches open. I'm almost 73 so I well remember the bug and then Naders end of the fun of owning one. The assembly takes some care if you want everything to fit. Take your time and savor it. Thank you Amazon for the great price so I could justify the fun of two VW Bugs. Read more

Read more

Very tedious but well worth it. The colors on the directions can be difficult at times. Ended up missing a couple small pieces but did not matter. Also, ended up with some little leftover pieces. Again no big deal. I'm a huge VW and VW toy collector and this added to my collection. Would be nice to have some color options as a 2 tone paint job was never factory. Read more
