Beautiful instrument! We purchased this for our 2-year-old granddaughter and, on Christmas Day, this was the very first gift she went to! She, immediately, began playing it with two mallets and the loveliest sounds were produced! By the end of the day, ALL the adult family members had played on it, as well. Being a very cheap, small, steel tongue drum, I kind of expected it to sound very poorly. I actually bought it more for a prop than an instrument. I was joyously surprised! It is tuned in the key of D with eleven keys, so you get an octave plus three high notes. It's tuned well, to my ear. The low notes, particularly, sound pretty lush for the price and size. It does not sound great played by hand, it's rather too small and thin sounding, but with mallets, it resonates nicely. The included finger pads didn't sound that great, but I may have to figure out the right technique. The note flags are just stickers, with tape on them, not very classy, but they work. The overall paint finish is beautiful, I got the navy blue one, it looks like a drum kit from the 50's or glitter paint off an old roadster. Just gorgeous. The bag it comes with is simple black canvas, but it seems sturdy and keeps the drum from gathering dust. Overall, a great value for not a lot of money. Read more
