Compact Bluetooth mouse for a good price, but it’s no Cadillac.

BrandonOctober 24, 2021

I’ve got an M1 MacBook Air, and didn’t want to drop big $$ for an Apple Magic Mouse. I also wanted something compact other than a Logitech Pebble. The reviews on this were pretty good, and it was less than $20, so I decided to give it a shot. When I unboxed it, I was a bit disappointed with the cheap feeling plastic and the grey finish. It’s a decent quality mouse, but it looks and feels a bit cheap. The grip is more ergonomic than and Apple mouse or Pebble, but it’s not very comfy to use for hours on end. Bluetooth paired up effortlessly and had no issues. It is one of the quietest clicking devices I’ve ever used, and the battery life seems very good. I wanted a Logitech Pebble when I bought this, but had a trip coming up and needed a mouse in a day, and couldn’t get the Pebble in time, so tried this. It works great, it’s compact, it’s quiet. But it feels cheap compared to the Pebble. This mouse should do just fine for what I need it for, and I’m okay with it. If I had to choose between this and the Logitech, I’d pick the Logitech, but ONLY on the finish and seeming better quality plastic. That’s it. This is a good mouse. It’s Bluetooth, it’s as cheap as Bluetooth mice go, and it works as designed. I’d recommend it for that alone. One important thing - this is a compact mouse. If you’re working on this mouse all day every day, get a regular mouse. The ergonomics are so much better. Read more

The quiet champ

I’ve had pretty good luck with Lenovo products. For those who don’t know, this is the company that took over when IBM exited the consumer computer business and sold it in 2005 to this Chinese company. Wisely they didn’t do a lot to mess thing up, their laptops are still among the best on the planet and they make keyboards that still have that famous IBM touch, or at least something very close to it. And so it is with mouses (or mice if you prefer). They have a good variety of them, including the GO series which is about as close to a good old days mouse as you can get anywhere. WHAT YOU GET There are a few variants of this series and unfortunately someone made the poor decision to lump them together on this page which means that the reviews are all mixed together. Look at the fine print at the top of each review to be sure that you are looking at the right one because several models are so similarly named. This one is the GY51C21210 which uses a Type C dedicated (not Bluetooth) dongle that plugs into your desktop or laptop computer. It is rechargeable with non-replaceable batteries and the only unique features are a three-way variable DPI button and a user-programable button that by default works as a volume control. More on that later. With it you get a recharging cable but no transformer and a helpful but not perfect instruction sheet. FIRST IMPRESSIONS This is a relatively small mouse but not super slim, I think it’s small enough to travel well with a laptop and large enough to be my main mouse for my desktop computer. If you switch between computers you have to take the previously mentioned dongle with you. Fortunately thanks to an easily removable cover with a magnetic release there is a nifty slot inside to store it. The mouse is not ergonomic and less rounded than most modern ones and has the timeless design of a left and right finger activated tap button and a simple rubber scroll wheel. The DPI button is on top but not in the way so I found it can’t be accidentally activated in normal use. The one and only other button, and I am so thankful for that, is a button under your right thumb that by default you hold in and turn the scroll wheel to use as a volume control. I try to avoid mice with any buttons other than the default standards of left, right and scroll but if I had to pick just one function for an extra button it would be as a volume control, it comes in handier than I ever expected. CUSTOMIZATION As simple as this mouse appears it is deceivingly customizable. As soon as I plugged the dongle in it automatically paired (there is a manual pairing button on the bottom of the mouse) and a popup window suggested installing an optional unifying app which can give you additional customization options like changing the number of DPI steps, changing the rate for each press, or disabling the button completely. You can also customize the side utility button to be used for a variety of conferencing calls and a few other handy options. IN USE I had high hopes that spending this much for a simple mouse that I could get from some no-name brands could get me one that feels well made, has a blue laser for better tracking and does what a mouse is supposed to do. That last one sounds simple but as a graphics professional finding a good pointing device isn’t as easy as it sound. It seems Logitech’s ads are everywhere and most people choose them because they offer so many mice that sound cool, and these days cost a lot. I have bought their mice for years and I have resolved never to do it again. They are legend for not lasting and the last one I trashed was supposed to be one of their premium models – it was non-stop frustration from day one, always doing unpredictable things while I was trying to concentrate on my work. My initial thoughts about this one from Lenovo is like night and day – it tracks perfectly with no lag, skip, erratic movements, etc. Each button has just the right amount of tactile click to it, the plain vanilla scroll wheel is light years more accurate than the loud fancy one on the Logitech. The single side button is mounted where I can reach it if I want to but never accidentally. But this is not an ambidextrous mouse, the utility button would be almost impossible to reach for a lefty. YES NO MAYBE The price bounces around on this for some reason but I got it at a right time, you can actually get it for less at the Lenovo site but this was more convenient. I’ve been using it for a while now and my hands are neither large nor small and I’ve adapted well to the fit. The most important thing is that it is 100% predicable, when I reach over and put my hand around it everything is where it should be and the buttons feel just right. When my pointer moves it goes just where I want it to every time. With countless mice models out there choosing one is a very difficult task but once again this brand seems to know how to get it right in their own quiet way. I am very happy with my selecton. Great until it doesn’t work

Lo~LoOctober 25, 2025

So I bought this in 2023. It’s been going strong 💪🏽 since but all of a sudden it pairs but doesn’t work. I unpaired it and then paired it. I changed the batteries and still it didn’t work. So I’ve had it for 2 years almost 🫤 and now it doesn’t work. Read more
