Great choice for a 4K smart TV!

Beau brownOctober 11, 2020

Great smart TV for the price and great picture quality. But it’s important to remember that the 4K aspect of the TV only truly shines when playing 4K content. So remember not to be disappointed with picture quality when watching some of your old DVDs and it doesn’t look as good as when you stream from Disney plus or other streaming platforms that have movies that are 4K. I’d recommend it to friends or family. Love how the LG TV menu makes it easy to access anything I need to. The voice control on the remote works well and we use it pretty often. The sound from the TV is quite good as well without having a sound bar or some other external sound system. It’s very easy to mirror from your phone to the TV as well and we use that feature all the time. It’s okay for playing video games on, nothing impressive in that arena unless you have a console that supports 4K gaming. Does the trick for somebody like me who plays a few times a month. Overall we are very pleased with the TV and have had it for almost a year now. Note: It is quite wobbly with the stand it has, so that’s something to be conscious of. As long as nobody is touching it or anything it stays put just fine. It would only concern me if I had kids running around the house. If you mount it that obviously would get rid of any possible problems that could happen. Read more

Xfinity cable users...read this review!!!

MantourguySeptember 17, 2019

I did SO much research on 4K TVs before purchasing this one. I have always had great success with lg TVs, so I decided to buy again. My main viewing is via xfinity cable and streaming with an Apple TV. I went back and forth betwen getting a “regular” 4K lg or this nano one basically because of the higher cost. But I liked the fact that the stand was center based and the legs in the end didn’t fit in my current stand. Plus after looking at different levels of lg at Best Buy, I decided to go for the more technological advanced nano tv. I bought it from Amazon because of prime delivery. When I got home and hooked it up to my xfinity box, I was disappointed... the picture was better than my 1080 tv but not near as spectacular as it was at Best Buy...after spending $400 more for the nano tech, I was disappointed.... HOWEVER, after a google search I found out my cable box didn’t handle 4K well, xfinity had specific 4K boxes. I went to my local xfinity, swapped out the box for a 4K box, and the difference was unbelievable. Now I LOVE this tv, the picture is amazing!! I found the original Avengers movie on TNT and it was like a different movie. The colors and clarity blew me away. The blackness of black is stunning, the vivid color and crispness is beyond what I expected. I can’t really comment on the sound because I use a sound bar. I highly recommend this tv, the nano cell tech is worth the extra money. But if you use cable, make sure your cable box is a 4k capable. Read more

Not so Magic Remote but a Great TV

JWFApril 25, 2020

The Magic Remote does not have any real way to customize the buttons. The biggest complaint, and I looked in the LG Forums for an answer, is that the Guide button brings up the useless LG version of your cable box guide. There does not seem to be a way to change this "feature." There have been questions about this for at least 2 years on the LG Forums and the answer from LG is the same useless video. Also, my cable box has a DRV feature and there is no way to access this. Fortunately my Harmony Hub Remote works well with the TV and I can access all the features of the cable box. Also the use of the remote is somewhat confusing. I got into places I could not easily back out of and the lack of ream user manuals, even in pdf form, is a real disadvantage. The second mildly annoying "feature" is how you have to setup the TV. LG assumes that you want a TV-centric setup. If you had a Home Theater-centric setup where the HT does the switching, you will have to rearrange the cables so that the LG TV is the center of the universe. Not too difficult, but it is annoying that you have to do this as there does not seem to be a way to properly setup the system the other way. Now for what I like, the TV itself, the picture quality is great and it was easy to setup, even though I had to rewire my system to match the LG view of the world. Also, fortunately (because of the terrible Magic Remote), the TV worked right away with my Harmony Hub remote. I would like to have a pdf user manual. I understand about not killing trees for a user manual that no one reads, but the online manual requires you to think like LG and I have had little luck finding how to do a few things. Fortunately it is mostly intuitive, but it is always nice to have something you can read off-line when you have a specific question. Placed a call to LG and they offered to call back because of the long wait. A day later I got a call from a random number in Alabama that this not ID LG in Caller ID. Of course, we did not answer. The person left a message about checking the useless websites, etc. and did not provide a phone number to jump the line and get connected relatively quickly with an agent. Read more

Nicest 55" 4K HDTV for the price

TwistedPretzelSeptember 15, 2019

For the price, this might be the nicest 4K HDTV that you can buy. * Picture is excellent (IPS panel) and bright * Snappy Smart TV features * 4 HDMI ports The remote takes some getting used to, though. It's not an IR remote and it has a gyro inside so it has a "mouse pointer" feature which allows you to "mouse" around on the screen. It's kind of annoying if you're used to old-school remotes which have up-down-left-right buttons. This remote also has a scroll wheel in the middle of the "OK" button on the remote. It didn't take me long to get used to it, but it's still weird. I also like that the Smart TV lets you opt in and out of updating software, etc. I've had other TVs just stop everything when trying to do something because it was convinced it needed to update the software then and there, instead of letting you watch your show. (I'm looking at you Samsung.) Despite the remote control learning curve, I still give it 5 stars. It's a nice TV. Read more
