My Ryobi 2200 watt inverter generator was more than sufficient at powering this unit

Sam GMarch 24, 2020✓ Verified purchase

-Update- My 2100sqr foot home's central A/c had one of it's three compressor fans blades shear off due to freak electrolysis, the broken blade cooked two capacitors and a relay, of course it was during a Florida hot and humid day. Inside it was about 90* and miserable. Set this up in my living room which has very high vaulted ceilings, and I was amazed it dropped the temp to 80* in about 30 minutes, I took my infra red temp gun and was amazed that this unit was throwing out 17* air out of the vents. I was gobsmacked that this unit performed better than I imagined it could. A couple hours later I had a replacement condenser fan, capacitors and new relay on my central A/c and I then packed this LG portable air conditioner away, ready for the next hurricane, which is why I bought this, but it came to my rescue today. Truthfully, this may be the very best thing I ever bought, it paid for itself in less misery. (Original review below) Picked this up here for half the cost at Home Depot, it said used from the Amazon Warehouse, but this unit was never taken out of its box and was brand pristine new. The box it shipped in was a little frumpy, but it was well packed in styrofoam. I set it up and it had no trouble running on my 2200watt Ryobi inverter generator. Then right back in the box to wait for the next Hurricane. When I bought my home in west Florida I installed 12mil window hurricane film & put Dow 995 glaze on every window, fortified the home as well, then we didn't see a major hurricane for nearly a decade, then Hurricane Irma came along and kicked our butt, knocked the electrical grid, my property has 13 giant oaks on it, and not one fell on my house, lots of trees down we had to clear ourselves as FEMA was next to useless. Took those donuts almost a year to clean up the debris, Sarasota has the #1 rated beach in the world, lots of tourists saw FEMA doing what they do best, and thats not being where there when you need them. They hired out of state trucks that were on their last legs due to being the FEMA lowest bidder, the tourists also saw these 50 year old trucks broken down on the roads they were to clean. First time I ever boarded up my home as Irma was real deal, I loaned out my generator and ethanol free fuel to someone with a medical need, so I sat in the dark with my feline Maine Coon until the power came back on a few days later, now I own two inverter generators and triple the stored fuel, I can still loan one out and this time this portable AC will run off my 2nd generator I bought, and keeping it a secret :) Read more

Awesome Ice cold A/C for a FAIR price!

I live in Tampa & purchased this unit for an emergency back-up system for storm/hurricane power outages and I also own several residential rental properties which all have central AC including my primary residence. I recently had a AC compressor blow up and had to use this unit for about 5 days until a new central system was installed. It worked great, blew nice cool air and kept a 20’ x 15’ room very cool, the noise level is reasonable, it’s not super loud or super quiet. I highly reccomend this LG portable unit for a temporary AC supply. I rate it 4.5 stars out of 5.. PS- I have only had it for 30 days, so I do not have a long term time line of use data yet. Great for bedrooms

JeremyAugust 5, 2019✓ Verified purchase

This is a great air conditioner, it cools a small room so well and feels like clean air, it’s 90-100 in LA from Mid August to end of September, and this is perfect. Even on a high 77 I get a little cold. Only downside is that it’s a little loud, but so much better than sweating all night and getting no sleep. Also I’ve used just the fan mode and it’s a nice breeze. Read more

Sacrificing quiet for cool

MBApril 9, 2020✓ Verified purchase

Since COVID-19 I have been working from my home office/man cave. I live in southern Texas and we have already had two 90 degree days in April not to mention almost constant humidity. Summers here a brutal reaching above 100 degrees several days at a time and you'd be lucky to feel 80f. I have my Desktop with 2 monitors, Laptop, Mini-fridge and my fill sized stereo receiver in here all pumping out heat. Even with central air this room gets well into the 80s and its super uncomfortable being a west facing wall. My office is only about 12x12 (160 sq ft) so I decide to try this little guy at 8000 BTU. Setup was pretty easy as I have installed something similar before. Upon turning it on LOW COOL I was a little unhappy about the noise level. The Specs sheet says 53db. I am call B S on that. Its definitely louder. Its not machine like loud more like white noise. Not really having another option for my situation I will just have to get use to it I suppose. It does cool the room down to the low 70s very well and very quickly. I have not tired going lower then 70f and dont plan to in hopes to save on the electric bill. So home office approved as long as you don't spend all day in conference calls. If you have a space about my size it may be a constant annoyance. But its a trade off and believe me if you had to spend most of the day in my office you would happily live with it. I purchased mine in "Like New" condition for a significant discount. Some of the screws for the window vent were missing but the unit is in good condition. If you're on a budget (and who isn't right now) check out the Like New ones. Mine was over $100 off. Read more

Died after 2 years of minimal use due to freon leak

PhilRay_MASeptember 5, 2021✓ Verified purchase

The AC unit worked reasonably well for a portable unit. In general, portable units are not as efficient as window units and are noisier due to them being completely inside. I bought mine in June 2019 and this summer I set it up again but was not getting any cooling. The unit's compressor was turning on and would stay on but no change in air temperature. I did all the trouble shooting steps per the LG website and they suggested I take it to a service center. Warranty is only 1 year and this one is 2 years old so service would be out of my pocket. Called the service center and described the problem and they said they were fairly certain the freon has leaked out of the unit. They said the aluminum tubing on this unit (and many others made in the last 10 years) is "thin\cheap" and prone to leaking. They said they could not repair it for much less than I paid for it and it would likely have a similar issue within a few years. They suggested I take it to a recycling center to dispose of. Will research buying another unit but will definitely get an extended warranty. Read more
