Awesome game!

kriss clausAugust 14, 2022

My son wanted this game. He used his Amazon gift card to buy it. When it came he ordered for his Switch but it was for the ps5. He decided to keep it because his uncle has one. He said the graphics are so beautiful and real like it's unbelievable. He really likes it and can't wait to get further into the game. And now he wants to order one for his Switch. Read more

great game for solid price

Sally SaysSeptember 28, 2022

solid 10 hour experience of high cutscenes and dialogue wheels. the big reveal at the end made sense to give backstory behind the characters. also think a full game about larping needs to be done after this. would recommend picking it up at around 20 to 30 bucks Read more

Mixed Emotions

VincentOctober 26, 2021

--First some housekeeping: Unlike past games in the series, you are not able to purchase each episode a la carte. Everything is on disc (except additional DLC, sold separately unless you buy the deluxe edition) with no download code to download additional episodes. The DLC just follows Steph. Basically, a slice-of-life of Steph working as a radio host. No big plot to follow, just more backstory on the character. Free PS5 upgrade. Cannot transfer save data. Both versions have their own trophy list, if you want to get both platinum trophies; you need to replay the game a second time on the other console version. There's a glitch on the PS4 version (if played on ps5) which i'll go into later. Best to purchase the PS4 version and do free upgrade if you mind playing again, and want double trophies PS5 version have haptic vibrations when you interact with items that trigger memories. Otherwise both versions are the same. --Now onto the review Like previous games; it’s a choose your own adventure, story heavy game. Story/Plot: You play as Alex who was in foster care gets reunited with her brother in a small town of Haven Springs. A kid is lost. You, your brother and his best friend goes out and try to find the lost kid. Your brother calls a company to hold off a demolition until you find the kid. The demolition goes off anyway and your brother gets killed. You then go on a quest to investigate why it went off Story focus heavy on grief of a community, and corporate influence. If you’re not into that then may want to skip. Like previous game in the franchise, you have powers. This time you have the power of Empathy, the ability to view other’s emotions through colored auras they project or objects they interacted with. At some points you are able influence other’s emotions or get information from them. Core gameplay is the same as previous games. Interact with objects/NPCs to progress the story. Must make difficult judgment calls at times, and game makes you choose one side over the other building or breaking trust between characters. Unlike previous games it’s one-and-done events. No ‘they’ll remember this’ prompt. If you gather information from NPCs/objects after the fact, you can go back to a previous NPC you visited to get more backstory (not necessary part of plot progression) which is a nice touch Branching paths is self-contained for the most part to a particular chapter, and just open new dialogue interactions. At times when you complete a character specific event that gives you between 2 options, and it’ll show up in the last chapter, but don’t necessarily influence the overall plot. No quick time events (QTE) in this game. All game play involves dialogue choices, and walking around finding objects. There are retro arcade machines you can play to get high scores Walking animation is still stiff, but way better than previous games. You can jog holding down R2 which is great (but only in certain areas) During one chapter you play in a LARP (live action role play). Very similar to the D&D game in one of the pervious games. There are romance options: one male and one female character. You don’t build up relationship every time you interact with them. Instead, there’s this festival in chapter 4 where you give a flower to your crush and they automatically accept. Except for main story plot points, you can totally ignore them and still end up romancing them. There are more side quests, and a lot of optional interactable objects than previous games. They provide additional commentary and open new dialogue but doesn’t go anywhere. Ending have you choose between various 2 core options which lead to one cutscene over the other. In the very end, the game have you choose one of two final options for the definitive ending like how the first game have to choose whether or not to save Acradia (but in this one it’s not as dramatic). Last chapter gets really deep and dark with main character’s backstory, but doesn’t really commit to it opting for a generic ending. Wished they had expanded on it or add another chapter Unless you get lost finding the key items to progress or take too much time exploring/collecting PSN trophies; game will last you around 8 hours or so. Graphics is best in the franchise thus far. Similar art design. Very good detail on facial animations, although lip syncing still an issue in some scenes Voice acting is very good. Dialogue seems realistic/natural and not filled with one liners. Deals with real emotional issues that you would talk to your therapist (anxiety, depression, grief etc) about. It’s not over the top where it forced politics or exaggerated plot points. -PSN Trophies. As mentioned before, 2 separate trophy list. Basically 3 types of trophies: story based (just play through story, no revisit/choice based trophies), collectables memory type trophies, and side quest trophies (think there’s only 2). If you follow a guide online it’s very easy platinum. There’s also chapter select which tells you which scene to collect trophy if you miss it There’s currently a glitch where if you play the PS4 version on PS5, the game crashes before the last cutscene to get trophy/platinum trophy. If you play on PS5, must transfer data to PS4 via PS+ cloud save and continue from PS4 console to earn them. PS5 version don’t have that issue. Overall if you’re into an emotional tale where you explore grief in individuals in a small community then it’s worth a try. Lack of branching paths and no QTE/action scenes is disappointing. I’d say it’s better than Life is Strange 2, but not as good as 1 or ‘Before the Storm’ story wise Read more
