BRIO is NO Bro
The Good - Love the cylinder design. LOVE the privacy cover feature!!! Love the USB-C, which I think makes the camera perform as well as a laptop built-in webcam. Love the cable. It's thick without being heavy and awkward to position the camera. So unlike other webcams with flimsy cords, that easily unhook from the terminal with the mere suggestion of a tug. It seems the camera video is toooo dark when chest level or below. But then is much better when above chest level. Apparently, it doesn't need a separate driver installation. It worked right away with software requiring a camera. I'm sure for Skype, Marco Polo, Zoom, video message etc. this camera will serve very well. The bad - The mounting base is difficult to fit to a monitor, especially, an external monitor such as my 32" LG. The mount isn't secure, so you have to take care to not jiggle anything while using it. The camera itself swivels, but too readily. It takes a delicate balancing act to make it stay in position. Especially facing you for facial shots. Commentary: My intended use of this camera might be atypical, so FYI. I will be using it with software that duplicates facial expressions. Then transfer said expressions to an animation avatar. Which then along with text-to speech allows the avatar to give a presentation, lecture, or act in speaking scenes. I think the camera is overpriced for what it does. I almost decided to just use my Panasonic camcorder instead of buying this webcam. But BRIO 505's compactness, and so far, performance seems to make it a decent purchase. The mounting issues are discouraging, so not sure if I'd purchase the webcam again, or suggest it to others at this time. That would change if further experience with the mount prove my concern to be misplaced. Read more
