What an upgrade!
I have used logitech products for a long time and I always have been very happy with them. This review is for the logitech G915 (GL CLICKY) keyboard. This is my first keyboard with the high performance, low profile mechanical keys. I had a previous logitech keyboard that was wired and has lasted me for years. But I was interested in getting a wireless keyboard with RGB capabilities. There were many different options on Amazon so I tried different manufacturers keyboards to find one that I really liked. My requirements for my upgraded keyboard were as follows: 1) I love keys with a low profile and low travel on them so this was a priority for me. My previous logitech keyboard handled that really well. 2) I wanted the ability to record macros (if you have a lot of repetitive tasks, you'll never know how much you will love macros until you start using them) 3) I desired a keyboard with more than one angle option for elevating the tilt of the keyboard to conform to my angle of typing 4) I needed a full separate number keypad 5) I wanted bright, colorful led keys without screaming "look at me" but still having an elegant cool factor. 6) Wireless with decent battery life. 7) Dedicated media controls 8) Affordable price 9) Plays well with other RGB software Well, this keyboard has done a really good job of meeting (almost) all of those qualities. How did it stack up? 1) After trying several other keyboards, this logitech G915 had the lowest profile mechanical keys of anything that I tried. The "throw" was longer than my old keyboard but shorter than any other mechanical keyboard that I tested, with a crisp, but light key action. There weren't any double-strokes or errors. It was incredibly accurate. 2) Macros. This keyboard has them. There are 5 Macro keys on the far left of the keyboard and they are easily accessible. Overall, they are great, but they did take some getting used to. As a video editor, I am a big user of keyboard shortcuts so the CTRL and SHIFT keys are a regular part of my repertoire. Initially, I found that I was hitting the G5 and the G4 macro keys when I was touch typing. It took a bit of adjusting to prevent that from happening. But, hey, in the process of hitting them by mistake I quickly found that they were preprogrammed to refresh a web page and open up a sidebar download function of my Vivaldi browser. So that was a bonus! I actually use those a good deal! Yea! The macros are easily recorded, so you can pretty much make this keyboard do whatever you need it to. 3) Angle option. This comes with two feet that are adjustable to two different heights. Since this keyboard doesn't come with a wrist rest, I found it helpful to have this keyboard at a greater angle to make typing even easier. 4) Full separate keypad - check! 5) RGB coolness factor: Spot on! Nice clean and vibrant colors come through the keycaps. But because of the low profile there isn't a lot of RGB color spill from under the keys. I like that. I included a side angle shot of the keys so you can see how clean the look is. 6) Wireless with decent battery life. Solid score here. Some have complained that they didn't have good performance if the keyboard was too far from the receiver. That hasn't been an issue for me. But logitech thoughtfully includes a decent length of USB cable that the transmitter plugs into. This serves two purposes: I can still have the transmitter close to my keyboard and, when the time comes to recharge the battery in the keyboard, I can extend the cable and plug it directly into the keyboard and charge it while I continue to use it. I have found keyboard battery life to be quite sufficient (they keyboard itself turns off the RGB functions after a few minutes of inactivity. But turning the keyboard back on is instantaneous when you start typing on it. FYI, using this keyboard wirelessly or plugged in, I noticed no difference in response time. The Lightspeed technology that logitech is using here is terrific. 7) Dedicated media controls: THIS IS BONUS AND AWESOME. Specifically, this keyboard has a small "drum" in the upper right corner that you scroll forward or backward to control volume. It is smooth as silk and works instantly, with no lag between turning the barrel and hearing the results on the PC speakers. I work with different media that is recorded at different levels and this has been a big upgrade for me. No more reaching for a separate CTRL and Function key combination to control volume. There are also separate keys for Play/Pause, mute, and Forward/Backward functions. Nice. 8) Affordable price. Well, yikes, this is certainly not the cheapest keyboard I have purchased. But the price has come down quite a bit from when the keyboard was introduced. In addition, I purchased a "refurbished" unit from Amazon and saved a few more dollars that way. The Refurb has worked flawlessly. 9) Plays well with other RGB software. Although this ships with logitech's own G HUB software, if you have ever built you own RGB PC you will quickly find that mixing and matching different components often requires controlling each RGB component with different manufacturer's software. So, I switched to Signal RGB to control all of my RAM, Fans, and other RGB peripherals. This logitech keyboard interfaced flawlessly with the Signal RGB software so everything is in perfect sync. Other than the price, this keyboard is a killer and a great upgrade. I am really happy with it and I bet you will be too. Read more
