I love to cook and have a nice collection of expensive Japanese and German knives in my kitchen. I’m kind of obsessed about keeping them sharp, so I’ve purchased many different knife sharpeners. None are perfect; they all have pluses and minuses. This rolling sharpener checks all the boxes. It is made from a solid chunk of machined aluminum that has a quality feel. It weighs almost 1-1/2 pounds! There are four different sharpening discs included, and two at a time are attached to the ends. One disc is a 400 grit diamond surface. The other three discs are a ceramic material in 1000, 3000 and 6000 grits. These discs are secured to ball bearings on each end, so the sharpener rolls very smoothly. Four different grits gives you lots of sharpening options. If a knife is very dull, start with the 400 disc and work up to the 6000. If a knife just needs a touch-up, use the 3000 and 6000 discs. A leather strop is also included to give a final polish to the knife edge. The magnetic wooden base has 4 different blade angles - 15°, 18°, 20° and 22°. The magnets are very strong and hold the knife securely. Attach a knife blade to the wooden base and roll the sharpener back and forth on the edge. I do 10 strokes, then switch the blade to the other side and do 10 strokes on that side. I’ll switch back and forth like this 3 or 4 times. The result is a very sharp knife! Hope this info helps you decide! I see no reason to spend 100’s of dollars for a rolling sharpener. Read more

I received my item very quick and was able to use it the first day. I sharpened several knives all the way from paring knives to my chef's knives. The product did an excellent job. I only use the 400 grit and the 1000 grit. If I had had more time I would have used some of the higher grit stones to check them out. Overall very satisfied with the product. Part of my decision on choosing this product was the multiple angles that came with the base and the variety of stone grit selection. Most the other sharpeners only come with two angles and two grits when shopping in this price range. Read more

I bought this particular item as it had several grit options and was priced at a point that wasn't going to break the bank. I had been using a M-Chef countertop unit that used oscillating pads (?) to sharpen the blade. Magnetic tape strips held the knife edge. A photo shows that this typically left chatter marks along the knife edge. So I decided to find an alternative. Second photo shows the set of knives that I sharpened with the DOWOX sharpener. With little effort it did a fine job. Takeaways: Pro: Little learning curve. The 400 grit disk is only useful if you are putting a new edge on a damaged blade so having additional grits was a huge plus. Having the multi angle guide was a plus. Henkles (my brand of knife) quotes 15 degree edge. Con: Magnets holding the knife could be stronger. The smaller knife required some finessing in order to get it workable with the setup. It's not really for pocket or hunting knives but you could just used the abrasive disks and not the dum, And yes, there is a major safety risk in the way the blade is positioned in proximity to you hand when rolling the drum. Lastly: It's true if you know how to use a whetstone then it is cheaper but requires you spend a little time learn and do it often enough to keep up your skill level. Read more

Very sturdy body made from aluminum, which gives it a good weight. The multiple stone heads are great, was able to restore a very dull knife and refine it. It needs better bearings to be able to roll smoother. The leather strop needs some polishing compound to be more effective, which is not provided. Main issue with this product is the magnets are not the strong. Does not hold kitchen knives well, they will move around when sharpening that can mess up the sharpness. Also, with roller sharpeners they don’t do the tip end very well. You will have to stop and work only that section to sharpen it. Read more

The media could not be loaded. DOWOX Longer Rolling Knife Sharpener NOTE: I'm not sure if I mispronounced DOWOX in the video. I have a couple of other knife sharpeners, but I've never seen one quite like this. I'm sure they've been around but they are new to me, and I love how simple it is to use. The set comes organized in a sturdy box that holds everything nicely and makes for convenient storage as well. To start, I placed my knife on one of the magnetic angled edges. I rolled the stone over each side of the knife for a few seconds and the blade became extremely sharp. I tried a second knife, with a different angle, and got the same results. In less than a minute, I had nicely sharpened two knives. I like that the sharpening stones come in four different grits, 400, 3000, 4000 and 6000. I only used the 3000 grit, and still ended up with sharp knives. The sharpening discs are easy to change out by unscrewing them and then screwing on a different sharpener. The kit also comes with a leather strop to make sure all the sharpening debris can easily be removed from the knife. For me, this is easily 5 Stars, and I can solidly recommend it. Read more

The first time I used this set up, I did not like it. I took some time to understand that you want to use the heavier grit to the finer grit in order. Also, you really have to pay attention to the proper angle. Now my knives are very sharp. Read more

I just received this knife sharpener today August 26, 2024 as I wanted to sharpen some pocket knives but I was very disappointed with the quality and results. first of all there is not enough space to hold the knife firmly in place. from the photo you can see that the area that holds the the knife in place is only 1 inch high and the magnets are not strong enough either. I had to hold the block and try to hold the pocket knife with my left hand while rolling back and forth the roller with the sharpening stones. As you can also see from the photos I only sharpened one knife and the yellow stone got some knicks. if you are planning to buy one of these sharpeners make sure that you look for one that has a large enough surface to hold the knife whether pocket knife or a kitchen knife firmly in place. I will be returning this item later today or tomorrow. Read more
