It's cheap - it works (so far).

Good transformer for the money. It has absolutely no frills like AVR (Auto voltage regulation), so this thing is basic, but that's what I was looking for, as my existing step-up/down with AVR was getting squirrely and detecting faults where there were none. I'm using this with 220v audio equipment that draws about 30W-50W, and there is no electrical noise I can pick up - presumably because this is likely just a 1:2 wound transformer.. Now for the 'bad': My input voltage is 122-123V (normal for the us, it's now nominally 120V), and this transformer just doubles that, so my output is 246V. That's fine for my equipment which has another transformer and a linear regulator in it, but you should be aware that 246V is slightly above even what you would see in the UK (which is nominally 240, unlike the rest of Europe, which is 230). There are other reviews where people plug hair dryers into this - obviously you're going to blow a fuse or - worse - overload the transformer. Check the wattage of what you hook up to it and leave a safety margin, certainly don't plug a 1800W hairdryer, kettle, or vacuum cleaner into a 500W transformer... Read more
