I have tried several different brands of Apple Watch stands, all under the $10 price point to see what I liked best. The first was solid aliminum and had a very sleek design and also included a cable management system like this model does. Unfortunately that is where the similarities end. This model - Pros: cable management keeps the non-included Apple Watch charger cable with charging magnet ring very secure and absolutely invisible except for where it discreetly leaves the back of the unit. It looks like it was built right in. The unit feels sturdy and strong with some weight to its base in your hands. I definitely did not want it to tip over and drop my 44mm Nike Edition, V4 Apple Watch. To date after three months of use it has been flawless in that regard and looks great where I keep my electronics. Cons: None, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ITEM. The aluminum model for comparison and contrast, uses a white plastic double-sided taped to the battleship grey colored aluminum and you "weave" the tail of the charging cable through it. Looks like a cheep design afterthought and the item had very little weight as well. The only place to manage the cable tail was along the inner edge and over the side or off the other front side. I'll explain why I had to do it this way. Since the charging stand was so light I needed a marble drink coaster to add on top of the base to keep it from tipping over. The slightest jar of the nightstand or flex in your wood flooring (don't try doing cardio or a jumping jack) and the Apple Watch came tumbling down. A potentially very expensive repair for an item you paid less than ten bucks for. Bottom Line : Buy this charging stand and I promise you will not be disappointed. I'm using it while traveling as I write this review and have the stand on the TOP edge of a sofa with the floor 3 feet below and it is right near the edge. I've been up and down off the sofa, walking around and my 44mm Apple Watch hasn't even budged. No, I wouldn't normally do that but for the sake of this review I wanted to test it out to its limits and as an Electronics Engineer I cannot find a thing bad to say about it. If you look at my reviews history on Amazon, you might think I'm paid to write reviews, or that I have low expectations. However, I just call 'em like I sees 'em. When a product lets me down, my review will have a low star rating. And I'm careful to mention when the product is bad enough to warrant a return. With that out of the way, I had high hopes for this Macally watch stand, and I have to say when I opened the box I got even more than I expected. This is a little work of art, AND the Apple charger and cable fit *perfectly*. Before ordering, I tried to determine if the stand was made of plastic or aluminum, but the product page was unclear. I can say now that I cannot tell, nor does it matter. The stand is extremely well made and the base is very heavy (as other reviewers have mentioned). If it's plastic, then they fooled me. This stand was easy to use since there was nothing to put together & it didn’t require much manipulation or bending of the cable to get it in place (so no damage to the cable). It’s easy enough to remove it later if needed without causing any damage to the stand or the cable. My watch attached to the magnet securely and charged reliably (I even jiggled the table it’s sitting on quite a bit just to test it and my watch stayed attached). I like that I don’t have to open my watchband all the way in order to attach it- I just slipped it on the arm of the stand. There’s enough room for my band to dangle below the arm freely and then when it’s done charging- I can store my watch on the base of the stand if I want to- it all takes up very little space. FYI: There’s a black (silicone?) rubber grommet that slips out of the base: that’s where the USB end of the charger cord goes thru- then simply replace the (rubber) grommet cube after you have the charger cord pushed into place. (It was easy to get the cord tucked into the grooves & it held it in place quite nicely.) Very well made and looks nice! Read more
