A great game but it needs more. I know the Mafia games have never been open world with the exception of Mafia 3. This time around, we’re going back to the beginning. Mafia: The Old Country is mostly linear game with (before the free roam update) very scripted gameplay. This isn’t a bad thing and the story is great, I feel they missed an opportunity to fully use the game world. It’s beautifully designed, great atmosphere but it’s empty with the few exceptions of “Photo Opportunities”, Mystery Foxes, Newspapers, Saints Cards and a couple other things. These aren’t bad and are kinda fun to gather/collect but there’s missed opportunities to add so much to the game. Without giving away plot lines to the game, some elements could’ve been implemented into the game, ie Shake downs, Security detail for some of your “business partners”, Races ; automobiles and horses, running liquor, etc. the map is big and detailed but it’s empty as hell. You can “buy items” from a local fencer but it’s limited to 2-3 times during the whole game (before the free roam update). I haven’t played since the update so I can’t comment on that aspect, they may have added a few things but, I feel like it was a missed opportunity. It’s a great game albeit kinda short, maybe 7-10 hours and that’s including gathering all collectibles in the game. It’s broken down to 15 chapters including the prologue with each chapter about 10-25 minutes, depending on the difficulty setting and player ability. It’s well worth the price of 49.99 even without a big replay value. Enjoy it and.. Welcome to the family. Read more

I've been a long time Mafia fan (I own the originals and definitive edition remasters), so I have been waiting for this latest installment for YEARS! I am having a really fun time with this game. I appreciate the heavy storytelling, awesome performances, and the beautiful backdrop of 1900s Italy. The combat is addicting (from the intense knife fights and brutal shooting sequences), and I'm enjoying the driving mechanics as well. There is currency in the game which helps upgrade your gear and physical abilities. And disclaimer: if you own the definitive editions, then you unlock Vito's 1911 and Tommy's taxi cab and Lincoln's quick takedown ability for use within the campaign. It does break the immersion, but it's definitely a fun little perk to spice things up. This is absolutely worth the price of admission. I'm glad to see this franchise return, and I hope this is the beginning of a Mafia resurgence. 4/5 Read more

Gorgeous, incredible voice acting, great story. One of my favorite games so far this year. We need more, shorter, tighter focused games like this. Read more

Wanna experience how to be an old school Italian Mafia? Well, this is the right game for you. Great graphics and a story to keep you entertain. Game can be finished in 12 to 14 hours of story. There a map to explore similar to mafia 1 and two. Old school car are fun, if they only put more side quest car driving. The story is great but short, cars are fun to drive. Read more

Being a lifelong mafia fan, I can safely say that this is the worst mafia game out of them all. Now with that being said, I still think the game is above average and definitely worth the price of admission, but don’t go into it expecting the greatness of Mafia 1 or 2. Here are some pros and cons about the game as a whole. Pros- $50 price tag being $20 cheaper than most games nowadays The visuals are stunning and the games performance is quite well optimized especially considering it’s on unreal engine 5 Amazing voice actors that really sell the role of each character Cons- Absolutely one-sided predictable story that’s way too short (7 hours on hard) Generic stealth missions that feel like they were straight out of Star Wars outlaws. The gameplay focuses on being a cover shooter, mostly with emphasis on knife combat for up close instead of your normal melee. Overall, the game is worth a bye, but just know that it’s extremely short and even with the “side missions” you’re only going to be getting 15 to 20 hours max out of the entire experience. I really hope that if they do make another mafia game, it’s fully fletched out and completely open world cause I really do feel like the essence of mafia was truly missing with this game. Read more

My favorite mafia game since part II. The love story was amazingly Shakespearean. The graphics looked great on PlayStation. The revenge always felt satisfying. Once you get the hang of the stealth, it is not bad at all. For 49.99 I really can’t complain. I find myself wanting more and I do hope there is an expansion in the future. Just when I thought I was done playing, they pulled me back in! Read more
