I took a chance as I still have some VHS tapes and my last machine stopped working. This Magnavox had problems from day one. It had audio on the VHS side, but no video. The DVD side worked well. The remote stopped working after about 3 days. The buttons on the machine seemed to work, but it got to be more of an annoyance and did not want to take the chance of destroying or having a DVD held hostage within. I plan to buy a straight DVD player (new) for now and worry about the expense to buy the necessary equipment to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD myself. I took a risk. I lost. Sad story, but true. Was a carbon copy of the unit I had to replace. The former units VCR was no longer accepting tapes. This replacement unit just had to be plugged in using the same cables as the old one. PERFECT! Read more

instead of the universal remote I received with the device, I would have preferred a direct control that did not require programming. the remote sent did not have written instructions, and it was linked to an incorrect on-line instruction set, it was very hard to find the proper codes and enter them correctly. otherwise the player works as advertised. I was excited to find a vcr/dvd player. My old one quit working properly and I really wanted a combo player again. I was concerned about buying one that was refurbished, but so far this one has worked great! It also came with a remote (many others did not come with one) and that works properly as well. Read more

The media could not be loaded. I’m sure this is not reflective of all Amazon products, but this particular seller was awful. Nicole’s compliments summed up in one sentence “Here I’ll send you a return label so we can resell to someone else” This said after the assumption ive not used the product ‘correctly’. If you are interested in an older vcr player as I am (I grew up with them, so I know how to use them ‘correctly’), I’d recommend steering clear of this seller. The first vcr I bought from them worked for about a week, with poor picture quality throughout. Finally the picture began degrading to which I attempted to use a head cleaner which had no effect, and within a day it stopped displaying the visual of vhs tapes altogether, it was a defective component. So I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt as the vcr also appeared to have been dropped in shipping. I returned it and received an email that I had been sent two accidentally so I figured I’d roll with it, it was a bit shady but I don’t mind if it worked. However it did not work. Same issue, everything functioned but would not actually play the video of the vcr. I tried multiple basic things to see if I could troubleshoot and also even just played it for awhile to no avail. When I asked to return this second one, the email chain should adequately show you how I was treated afterward. I suppose I cannot match the intellect of an autistic child despite being a nuclear welder; so cudos to you Nicole, you certainly got great compliments. Read more

I don't usually write reviews but I wanted to share that I received this earlier than expected and was very happy, it looks and works like it is brand new. Both the VHS tapes and the DVD's play with no problem. I am really exited to be able to watch all my old VHS movies. Thanks to Magnavox. Read more
