For the price, this magnifier is a great deal. Good for desktop or lap use & travel. We have an expensive set up for our studio, but the magnifier on this is surprisingly of similar quality & you can move around with it. The main issue is - the base isn't weighted - which is great for portability, but takes a little adjusting. To address that, we simply place a small object on the base, & it's fine. After tying to use this item while crafting, I realized that I craft on the couch a lot. Snuggled into a huge pillow against the arm of the couch and trying to balance this magnifying glass on my thigh is not the best idea I've ever had. The product itself is great! There are two light levels, and both are sadly too dim for my needs. If you sit at a table a lot and need magnification with some light, then yes, this works perfectly! Read more

The latch that keeps the stand closed was so difficult to open that I was afraid of breaking something. So I filed it down with a nail file. It seems cheaply made, but I like the stand feature. NOTE: the cord is NOT a CHARGING cord. You can run the light off the cord, if you have a laptop very nearby. But it isn't made to charge the batteries--it is made to use non-rechargeable batteries. It is sturdier than I thought it would be. It is easy to use. It's really a nice size to hold in your hand no matter what size your hands are. I had my friends with big & small hands try it. They didn't have a problem holding the magnifying glass. Of course, the only thing I think most people would change is that the cord is short and that it has to stay plugged in to get power to the LED lights which are really nice. I have to use it on my kitchen table. My office desk is too small to use for the projects I'm working on. Luckily, I happen to have a USB cord extender. I hope no one trips over the cord. I don't know if it would have been possible to manufacture this product to hold a charge so it wouldn't have to stay plugged in. It is small. Who knows? It could have been designed that way for us to buy it at a more reasonable price. The price is great compared to others that don't seem to have the right design. They look flimsy to me. Also, when trying to find the right magnifier I noticed that other products had a square or rectangular stand. I would think that would be in the way of some objects you want to view. Those products even cost more money. I like how the design of this device lets me slide a coin in and out from under it without having to pick it up all the time. The big reason for my purchase is that more people bought this particular magnifying glass than others. A lot more. So, I can say that you will be pleasantly surprised when you receive your magnifying glass. Don't forget, it does use batteries. That may be a better choice for you. Both ways of powering this device was not a deal breaker for me. I can adapt for a product that has a reasonable price to use for all of my small projects.
