Huge fan of this mat. I got the 85" inch and the extra length is well worth it. Very stable, well constructed, plenty of cusion for a large male, and easy to clean/maintain. Like many, I found it to be slick when new, so I took an unconventional approach that has worked excellent for me. How I made it sticky (this WILL void the warranty though): 1: Get a green abrasive pad, like what you would use for dishes 2: Get some AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend (I used Comet because thats what I had on hand) 3: A small bucket of water 4: Apply a little bit of AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend onto the yoga mat 5: Dip the abrasive pad into the water and splash a little water on the yoga mat 6: Gently scrub the entire yoga mat with the abrasive pad, water, and AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend, it will suds up a bit which is normal. 7: When done, rinse very well with fresh water - it takes multiple rinses, so be thorough. 8: Wipe dry, and then let it fully air dry Some notes/tips (important): 1: Less is more. Don't go crazy with the AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend. Start small, and after the first round, if you feel it needs a little more, then do so. 2: When scrubbing, go gently. Don't bear down super hard or put in a ton of elbow grease. Use a little pressure. The point here is to remove any coating and gently scuff the surface, NOT remove material. Again, if it needs a little more, you can go back for another round. That's about it. Once I did this, rinsed it, wiped it down and let it thoroughly dry, my mat was perfect. I've been using it regularly for the past few months and it continues to feel plenty grippy. I have the black mat, and it still looks/feels like new too, no signs of degradation or anything like that. This worked for me, but just remember to go gently, don't overdo it, and this WILL void the warranty. I didn't care about warranty because its very well build and I can tell this will last me a very, very long time. If the time does come for a new one, I'll definately be doing this procedure again. This yoga mat is extra long, super long - it’s awesome! I always end up off the mat And on to the dirty floor while I’m teaching or practicing. This should definitely solve that problem! Also, this mat won’t slide at all due to its grippers on the bottom! It’s soft yet very firm, a section of hygienic floor just for me (I call it). I am so excited to teach my first class with it in the next two days! I did some home practice with it and it was awesome, my hands don’t slip in Downward-Facing Dog or anything. Definitely recommend to the serious yogi or yoga professional. Read more
I have used numerous brands and types of Yoga mats. Manduka makes a great product. It is indestructible and certainly worth the premium one pays over other Yoga mats. For someone that is 5 ft 11 in or taller the Manduka Pro Extra Long is without a doubt the mat you should oder. It is absolutely essential to do the salt treatment prior to use. My only disappointment is toward myself - why did I wait so long in buying the Manduka mat? For anyone that is serious about their Yoga practice - this is the gold standard of mats. Read more
I am 6’2” and the length of this mat is perfect for yoga and the thickness of the mat keeps the knees fairly well padded. It is a heavy mat to carry in and out of the yoga studio but it’s well worth it. I would buy this mat again! Read more
Just a few observations. After all this is "just a yoga mat". - It's very heavy. I would expect it to stand up to my 230 lb body much longer than an "ordinary mat".. - It's very sticky. I like it that way, but I don't slide at all. - It's very expensive. Read more
Disclaimer: this review is coming from someone whose practice is 95% heated. This mat was the worst. It was so slippery! I was falling all over the place. Again, I typically do heated flow, so I sweat a lot. I came off of Lululemon’s The (Big) Mat. (I’m 6 feet tall, so I need a a long mat.) I had that mat for seven years and loved it! But as I practice quite often, the sticky layer started to disintegrate a bit. I started reviewing mats to possibly try something new. I just needed something extra long. That’s when I ran across this mat It had such high reviews I thought it was a no-brainer. I will say it’s big. It’s not as wide as my other mat but 1 inch longer. It’s also very thick. 1 mm thicker than my other mat. It is also very heavy! I could hardly pick the box up to get it in my house.Bottom line, If you practice hot yoga, this is not the mat for you. I returned and went back to my Lululemon mat. Read more
Love the size and thickness and overall quality of this mat. However, I have the same problem others reviewers have reported- even after breaking it in with daily use over a week it’s very slippery compared to my B Mat and even my Liquid Balance mat from Clever Yoga. I would not purchase it again based on its current function... I’m hoping it improves with time because I really want to love this mat. Read more
It’s the best yoga mat - hands down! This is my second one. I had my previous one for 15 years until my son “borrowed” it. It still looked new. It’s heavy, but I love it! Read more
