Manhattan Portage Medium Professional Bike Messenger Bag

My thoughts on this bag: Great size - holds enough for everyday use, including a jacket or whatever you might need. Great Materials - feels likes it is going to last a thousand years. Good colours - The high vis might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it does serve a purpose and makes it really stand out in a crowd. (personally I love it) There is an open pocket on the back that can hold an A4 book (that's what I use it for) Inside there is a zip pocket on the front and a smaller pocket inside on the back that can be used for wallet, keys, glasses etc. My only criticism is that there probably needs to be another pocket on the inside. I was always a timbuk2 guy, but then recently discovered Manhattan Portage and I will never go back. The quality is outstanding. I use this as my work bag and the larger size as my gym bag. ...but the bag is stiff as a board. I like the rubberized lining, protects the bag from my lunch and coffee spills, and the color is great, with reflective strips and all. However, not too many extra pockets for iPad and things. The whole bag, including the shoulder strap is like carrying a 2x4 over your shoulder. I switched out the strap from another bag to keep this one from cutting into my shoulder. $100 or so with tax, not my best investment. Read more

Pros: Colour is bright enough to be seen at night while riding on road. It's waterproof. Be it rain or shine, this bag is put into good use! Spacious. Cons: Not many compartments. Metal plate will get rusty overtime. Read more

I've spent years trying to find the right bag for work. Something that would hold all of the paperwork and equipment that I may need during the course of my day, preferably waterproof. Everything that I had tried in the past was too small, too heavy, or just a bad design to get things out in a hurry. I had seen this brand being used by some of my co-workers in the past, and had always heard good things about their products. When I found this version on sale, I thought I should finally give it a try. WOW!!! Love it. The fabric and straps are so durable. Even the strap buckle is metal, unlike competitors versions that use plastic buckles, which tend to break over time. The interior pockets are handy, and I really appreciate having a zipper closure on them (large front pocket, plus a smaller back wall pocket, both have zippers). The interior is in a contrasting yellow, heavy duty, waterproof fabric. Keeping all of your goodies dry. The exterior, orange/red color with reflective stripes would not have been my first choice, but actually, I have grown to appreciate the color. It's so easy to spot it, that it would make it difficult for someone to walk off with it. Also makes it easy to describe to co-workers who need to get something out of it when I'm not around. loved this bag...perfect look, reflective neon stripes and fully waterproof and coated interior...i've had many portages in high school and college (it was the NY thing in the 90s...everyone had one.) This is a medium and looked fine on my hubby but he thinks it's too stiff...funny, that's why i LOVE THESE bags...was hoping to use this myself with my 3 kids on long bike rides but it was too big for me (i'm 5'4) i think I need a small or xs... anyway best quality, if you've never owned a portage, and you're active and like biking, and use public transportation in large cities...this is the bag for you. even if just for the NY style, it's an awesome bag...many young moms and dads in NYC use these as diaper bags FYI. This thing is awesome. I have already had it out in the rain cruising around and my stuff never even got damp. The reflective bands are great and make me more visible, or something to add to my case if I have to sue someone for being negligent and rear-ending me. Seems super durable. 6 months later. I commute by bike in the city everyday and use this bag for the majority of trips. It is sturdy and comfortable and does just what is should do. Also, it is definitely great in in bad weather, never had an issue. Great purchase. Read more
