At first I was kind of thrown off on how it just squishes down super fast. But as I begin to sleep I found it was very comfortable for my knees it didn't sink in it just sank in and my heavy spaces my back! I didn't have a smell when I opened it. It looks very durable and you can take the cover off and wash it if need be. It fit right on top of my queen size bed with no problem. I think it's a great value if you understand how it works. It's great!! Soft, comfortable, fits my king size bed easily. It comes rolled up and compressed in the package, but once you open the protective plastic cover, it starts to "inflate". It will take up to 48 hours to fully expand, and once it does, it's gold to sleep on. I got it early in the morning, and pulled it out of the box, and was pleasantly surprised to see it included a flat strap cutter style letter opener to cut open the protective plastic with. It's taped to the plastic, NOT inside it. Of course you can use a pair of scissors if you're careful. One thing about uncompressing it, you can open the zipper all the way (the cover is removable for washing), and it will help speed up the initial process. I put it on the bed to decompress about 10 AM and about 12 hours later it was well on it's way to being fully uncompressed. I did sleep on it and it was comfortable, but now, a week later it's fully uncompressed and comfortable as all get out. Sleeping very well now. Had it for a 3 weeks and there are several issues with it. There are divots and lumps, quality is not good. The straps that are meant to hold the topper constantly come undone and you need to adjust almost every day. First few days it was comfortable, but after a week it did not feel great.
