The Ultimate Work Travel Backpack – Practical, Professional, and Surprisingly Perfect!

Lauren SaylorMay 2, 2025

This backpack is AMAZING. It’s exactly what I was looking for and then some. I travel often for work, and I needed something that could hold my laptop and an extra pair of sneakers—but still look sleek and professional enough to carry into the office. This backpack checks every box. It has tons of pockets and smart storage options, with more than enough space for everything I need on a flight—laptop, chargers, snacks, you name it. One of my favorite features is the external charger port. Being able to charge my phone on the go—whether I’m in the air or working in an office—has been a game-changer. I was fully expecting to be disappointed just based on the price, but I was completely wrong! The quality is fantastic, the material feels durable, and the design is both practical and professional. If I could add just one thing, it would be a dedicated sunglasses pocket—but honestly, that’s the only improvement I can think of. If you’re like me and looking for something for work travel, I definitely recommend giving this a try. I love it! Read more

Way Better Than I Expected For The Price

Aaron WassermanDecember 6, 2025

I picked up this pack looking for something affordable that could handle clothing and shoes for a quick 2 to 4 day trip and it absolutely delivered. I honestly expected it to feel a little cheap at this price but the reviews and high rating on Amazon were spot-on and it turned out to be a great value. The material feels sturdy enough to toss around on a trip and the zippers work smoothly without catching. The layout is what really makes it fun to use. The dedicated shoe compartment is a game changer because it keeps dirty soles away from clean shirts and pants so there is no unwanted dirt on your clothes when you unpack. There is still plenty of room in the main area for outfits and a light jacket plus a few pockets for chargers, toiletries, and random travel stuff. I had tried a TomToc backpack before this one and for the extra money it really wasn't any better in day-to-day use. This pack handles the same job just as well and feels easier to live with. It also works great as a carry on since it fits overhead bins without a fight and is comfortable enough to wear through the airport without feeling like a pack mule. For the price this thing is a no brainer. Read more

Solid and good, yet odd shoulder placement

M. Branch (Woody)November 12, 2025

Flown and taken long distance trips with this backpack, and can fit so much more in it. There are a good amount of pockets for the size, and the zippers hold up well on an airplane and in the back of the car. Everything is easy access, except the shoe pocket - that was a little oddly placed, but the shoe pocket is easily squishable. Color holds well, and does not show a lot of dirt and grime. Shoulder straps, for this smaller woman, was oddly placed, same with the reinforcement of the straps to the pack. When I had to put the pack in front, the reinforcement promptly dug into my throat. The straps, while standing for a prolonged period of time (1-2hrs) did make my arms go slightly numb to where I had to take it off and get my arms back to feeling normal. I love this backpack though, and have thrown away my older one despite the small set backs here. I'm not going back, this is worth it's price. Read more

My review following 2 week European backpacking trip

HBMichaelDecember 7, 2024

This backpack is light, solidly built and versatile. I've traveled by backpack thru Europe more than 15x with Jansport and Rick Steves backpacks (both great and well built). This Matein backpack is my favorite. It's the ideal size for me (which of course varies by person), as I've learned from years of travel the invaluable benefit of packing light. Still, this pack easily holds everything I need, including a separate pocket for an additional pair of shoes/sandals. Some reviews in here say the zipper broke on early use, but I never experienced issues with zippers or anything else. My backpack must be durable, as I travel thru Europe by train and to multiple destinations, so it gets carried a lot on my trips and gets a bit roughed up at times. The Jansport pack I traveled with in my younger days was excellent and well-built, but was a top-loading pack, which can be very inconvenient for easily accessing all the contents. Still, I continued traveling with it for years until a shoulder strap broke. The Rick Steves pack, also very well-built, sort of hung on my back like a sack of potatoes. I traveled with this backpack for many Europe trips and its durability and comfort were great. The biggest issue I have with this pack is the laptop pocket is on the outer side (meaning farthest away from my back), which is not ideal for weight distribution, especially for heavier laptops. With the Matein pack the laptop pocket is right against my back, which is ideal weight distribution. This really makes a big difference when carrying the pack for extended periods. Backpacks get heavier when carried for extended periods and in hot weather as you become worn out and tire (more reason to pack light!). I thank Rick Steves for helping me learn to pack light. This Matein pack is soft-sided with more firm corners and adges, which gives the pack stronger form so it doesn't hang on me like a sack of potatoes. This is one of the benefits I really appreciated, along with the location of the laptop pocket and the fact that it fits in the overhead bin on flights (never waste your time checking bags). For a traveling style that requires a backpack to be both durable and comfortable, this is a good one. It also has an outside handle to carry it like a suitcase with the shoulder straps easily tucking away into their own pockets. Given all of that, I've only traveled with this pack once for two weeks, jumping on and off trains (sometimes several times a day), and it performed very well and exceeded my expectations. It handled very well my somewhat rough and rigorous travel style. Most people overpack. Consider what backpack size you need and always aim to underpack - your future self will thank you! Read more
