I have several pairs of these shorts (different sizes due to changing weight) and they are my go to for hip support. I broke my hip as a teenager and now have no cartilage in my hip and arthritis. I have not been able to find compression shorts for women that come anywhere close to offering the support of these shorts. I'm glad I took a chance on them several years ago. They are very thick and compressive and offer great support around the hips, thighs, and lower back. They end up being kind of high-waisted on me and that works out very well for providing extra lower back support. I feel locked in when I wear these and they allow me to get through exercises that I might otherwise feel to weak for on days where my arthritis acts up. I've even worn them in everyday life on particularly bad days. I think these would probably feel great for after a hip replacement. I'll be having one within the next few years and will make sure I have a few more pairs of these for recovery. They are expensive, but you definitely get what you paid for. So many other "compression" shorts are just thin and fitted, not actually compressive. The waistband has a decent amount of stretch so that you can get the compression you need everywhere else with a little bit of flexibility in the waist. The leg holes are also comfortable. I just wish they were made for women as well (without the center crotch seam) - with underwear under them, that seam is not too bad though. Read more

Great support around the thigh and groin. Only problem is they don’t stay up so I’m constantly pulling the waist band up. Read more

great while they last - inconsistent quality - I have two pairs, but the second because the fit is great. I had a old groin pull injury and these provide feeling of security. Heavy duty compression. One of the pair had some bad stitching that led to a rip. Read more

I had never heard of the McDavid brand in my life, but have been really impressed with these. I'm a guy and am an avid runner and gymrat with loads of experience in using compression garments both for recovery and for coldweather running. I love these McDavids for several reasons. First off, I'm using these for a medical purpose after minor hip surgery complications. My ortho surgeon wanted me in compression shorts to prevent additional swelling around my incisions. The McDavids actually give you enough squeeze for that purpose, yet at the same time are very comfortable. I'm wearing them 24/7 both to bed and under my work clothes with no issues. With other compression stuff (...looking at you, 2XU) the waist is low-rise, and the meager space allocated for your junk - makes for an uncomfortable fit. These strike a great balance in compression and yet are cut pretty comfortably for guys. Also, the rise is higher up and is far more comfortable in my opinion. They're super thick and durable feeling, and in fact most of the panels are double-fabric. The crotch portion is single ply, which I actually think is brilliant b/c of comfort reasons above, not to mention ventilation. I even like the colors, where they tipped the black ones with red highlights and the white ones with gray highlights. The other key things that should be obvious: (1) most people don't wear them tight enough to get much benefit and (2) the compression you get will depend greatly on what size you order. I'm 6'2", 33 waist, muscular build and the mediums fit well without sacrificing comfort. If I were desperate for very high compression, I could move down to the small, but they'd be far less comfortable. All I'm saying is don't be nonsensical and whine about lack of compression when you order a 2XL for your 28" waist. Overall a great product, and these were so good I ordered a second pair. Oh and be aware, you may see WILD swings in price between the 2 colors and between sizes. My white mediums were almost twice the price of my black mediums. Can't wait to use these in the gym and not just on crutches. Read more

My first pair of white McDavid cross compression shorts has served me well for about 3 years and are still doing the job. I wear them for softball. They fit well and really provide good support to my hamstrings. I wanted a second pair, and based on experience, I was willing to pay the kind of steep price of $47 for it. I ordered it in black this time, same size (I'm still the same size), and the item arrived a few days later. I received them 3 days ago and wore them for the first time yesterday at my game. After about an hour, one seam ripped out completely leaving a gaping hole. They are unusable now. The sewing must be defective. I called customer support for the company and waited on hold for a very long time. I finally chose the option to leave a message and request a call back. So far, there has been no response. I will continue to reach out to them and update my review if the situation changes. Update May 24, 2022. The supplier, United Sports Brands, responded and shipped me a new compression short, same size, etc. I could see immediately that the middle seam was not sewn properly. I tried them on, and the seam immediately ripped out, just like the first pair. I contacted United Sports Brands again. I asked if they were receiving similar complaints on the product and they said "no". Note there are several more reviews citing exactly the same defect. They said they would ship another product if they could, but that their supply ran out and it could be months before they get more supply. I just requested my refund. Although this used to be a good product a couple years ago, I advise going with another brand from now on. Read more
