Prior to discovering this electronic pill box, my daily life included trying to get my 90 year old dementia patient family member to take her meds. Alarms on their phone, calls to remind them, etc. did minimal good. This person does not live with us, but close by. This box can be set for twice daily meds. It beeps & flashes for the specific day & time individual box that needs taking. The beeps continue & get louder until the pills are removed from the box. Not 100% fool-proof but so much better! I use this to remind me to take the appropriate medications AM and PM each day of the week. After almost one full week of use, I find that it is much easier to take the correct medicines on the intended day at the correct time. Overall, a well designed and high-quality product. The one drawback is that the initial setup is rather tricky due to a very rudimentary and somewhat confusing user interface and sketchy documentation.. The instructions for setting the time/date and the morning and evening reminder times not very clear. The short video is perhaps more clearly worded, but gives the user no time to carry out each step before moving on the on to the next. Perhaps there could be a few seconds of silence or music between the steps so the user can keep up.. My daughter and I were eventually able to complete the setup, but I think the instructions, the video, and perhaps the built-in software need improvement. Hence my 4-star rating. Fortunately, the time settings don't really have to be accurate to the exact minute, since the idea is to take certain medicines at some convenient time morning and evening. The outstanding part of the user interface is the pill compartments which make it easy to see what is inside, and the base, which has a red LED directly under each compartment. The LED flashes brightly to show which compartment to open for evening or morning, each day of the week). This helps ensure that I get the correct medicines at the right time -- so far, no mistakes! My mother is 86 years old, she has bad cataracts and is suffering from memory loss. These problems make it almost impossible for her to live alone and take her daily medications. I was at the end of my rope when I discovered this pill dispenser. Because it uses both light and sound it helps her to focus on the fact that it's time to take her meds. I was actually able to teach her how to use this dispenser. I previously tried another brand that was a disaster and only made things worse. I have only one complaint, it is hard for her to understand that she needs to press a button on the box the enable the box to advance to the next time to dispense her pills. I worked with her a bit on this issue and she seems to be getting it now. This pill box dispenser is helping her to avoid being moved into a care facility and keeping her in her own apartment because she is taking her pills as prescribed. Read more
I got this for my son who is has trouble in life, and remembering to take his pills is one of his troubles. Right off, the AA batteries (not supplied) did not fit. I tried some others and were able to force them in, and that is the first thing thats not going to work with my son. I had assumed wrongly that opening the pill capsule would turn off the alarm, which seems like the logical way to do it. Instead, to silence the alarm, you hit a button, but in his case he would hit button, go back to sleep, and not take his meds. Number two reason it's not going to work for him. It does have a delay/sleep feature, but it's hard to use, (especially if you are asleep), and thus he would just hit the button to silence the alarm and sleep away. (no one is going to use the delay function, as it's too complicated.) Pill boxes are small, and not labeled with AM/PM, which they really should be. Lastly it didn't go off at set time, and went off other times, and it was really quite, no where near enough to wake a mouse up. The first reason alone is enough to return it, but given the others makes me want to write this review, so others don't waste time. Oh by the way, since it's a third party, Amazon does not want to take it back. You would be better off with an alarm clock and a ill box, which is really all this is, except the alarm function is very poorly designed. Easy to refill, easy to set, easy to clean and easy to use. Good grief that beep is annoying but then again it's supposed to be so yes it works. It's decent quality. Maybe a little overpriced for what it is but then isn't everything medical. Read more
First of all, I think the idea for this product is brilliant. However, this particular version, is a rather expensive malfunctioning pillbox. I love that it has two separate sides that can be programmed for two separate times to alert for pills. When we used both sides for two separate pill times in a day , it worked pretty well. When my mother's pills were reduced, and she only needed one pill time a day, I read the directions, and disabled one alert to just be using the first alert time. Fantastic!!! I couldn't believe how easy it was. Until my mother started telling me it was alerting her in the middle of the night. I checked the settings and assured her there is only one time set and it is not in the middle of the night. When she got up and actually took an extra set of pills for the day because it was alerting her, I finally took the box home to test it out. Sure enough, it woke me up at 2AM alerting me to take a pill on Tuesday(It was Sunday). So, again, I checked the settings, thinking maybe I had errantly set it wrong. But there was nothing wrong with the way I programmed it. So we have stopped using it because it's too dangerous to rely on. What irritates me is how dang expensive it is for such a simple concept, and then it doesn't even work right!! I can buy a reliable old fashioned alarm clock and a drugstore pillbox for a fraction of the price, and not have the headache of a malfunctioning pill time alert. Read more
