The “massage” feature of this pillow is a gentle vibrating pulse that emanates from a couple of points around the back of the neck. This didn’t do anything for me; I found it too light and was hoping for something with a stronger rolling or kneading motion. My dad, however, absolutely loved it, so it became his Christmas present. He tends to prefer lighter-touch massages, and the vibrations were just right for relaxing his neck and providing a soothing, spa-like experience from the sofa. There are a few different modes for the vibration patterns, although some of the patterns feel a bit random and chaotic. It’s quiet overall; it emits faint buzzing from the patterned vibrations, but they’re muffled and easy to ignore. The heat mode takes a little time to warm up, and it can sometimes be difficult to tell the difference between the settings. The vibration function shuts off automatically after 10 minutes, which feels unnecessarily short to me, especially considering how gentle and low-intensity it is. The instructions are not a model of clarity, and although the pillow has only two buttons, getting to the settings you want isn’t intuitive. The design of the controls could definitely be improved. Battery life is okay - not terrible, but not great. The material is memory-foam–ish material, but feels lighter and springier than typical memory foam. It’s quite comfortable, and rather large, but it definitely supports your neck in a sitting position. The bulkiness works for comfort but not portability; because of its size I don’t think it would make a good travel pillow.
