I love doing my own nails at home, so this pocket-sized nail drill sounded like a convenient addition to my kit. I was pleasantly surprised — it’s not only cute (comes in several pretty colors; I chose Party Peach), but also very functional. It includes a few drill bits, so you can start using it right away. The compact, pen-style design is sleek and lightweight, making it easy to toss into a nail bag for travel or doing nails at a friend’s house. For its size, the 20,000 RPM with 9 adjustable speeds is impressive. I appreciate the vibration being at a reasonable volume . That said, this isn’t a professional-grade drill. It’s not powerful enough for heavy acrylic or hard gel removal, but it works well for touch-ups, shaping, and filing off gel polish. I also noticed it performs best while plugged in, since the battery will drain quickly when its on for a while. However, the included cord is a bit short, which can be inconvenient. Overall, it’s a cute, portable option for DIY nail care. While I love MelodySusie, you may be paying a bit for the brand, as similar cordless drills can be found for less. The value just isn't there for $30. Still, it’s a solid choice if portability and ease of use are your priorities. Read more

I’ve used enough nail drills over the years to know that “portable” usually translates to “cute but underpowered.” So when I picked up the MelodySusie PocketNail pen-style drill, I was curious but slightly skeptical. After spending some time with it, I can confidently say this little peach-colored pen earns its keep. First impressions matter, and this one nails it. The pen-shaped design is genuinely comfortable to hold, especially for beginners. It feels more like holding a thick marker than a tool, which makes it far less intimidating if you’re new to e-files. It’s lightweight, well-balanced, and easy to control without feeling flimsy. In terms of power, the 20,000 RPM max is exactly where it should be for at-home use. It’s strong enough to handle gel removal, light acrylic work, and cuticle cleanup without turning your nail into a science experiment. The motor runs smooth and quiet, with minimal vibration, which makes longer sessions much more comfortable. The modular design is a fun and practical touch. Being able to swap power bars and customize colors feels thoughtful rather than gimmicky. The extended kit extras, especially the USB operating cord and storage pouch, are actually useful. I appreciate not having to hunt for a charger or toss it loose into a drawer. Battery life holds up well for routine manicures, and the fact that it’s cordless means no wrestling with cables while trying to be precise. It’s clearly designed with beginners in mind, but it doesn’t feel like something you’ll outgrow immediately. For around $33, the value feels right. You’re paying for smart design, solid performance, and a tool that doesn’t overwhelm you while still delivering clean, professional-looking results. If you want a nail drill that’s approachable, portable, and surprisingly capable, this little PocketNail is an easy five stars. Read more

I have one of the other MelodySusie nail drills that requires staying plugged in. It's almost exactly like this one, but without the rechargeable part. I really like it, but was excited when this one came out; it gives me the availability to not have to be right next to a power supply. This has the option to be charged (with a USB-C cable) or used with a power cord. I like that it gives you both options, in case you don't have time to wait for it to charge. If you use it as a plugged in version, it comes with a clip that you can add to it; it can't be used when the rechargeable section is plugged in. I wish that it could be used no matter which way you went with it, because that's a handy way for me to set it aside, to clip it to my cupholder. It's a small thing though, and not worth deducting any stars. It charges up pretty fast. The controls are easy to figure out and use. The drill is solid and performs well, it also comes with some starter nibs, though I'll use the ceramic ones that I prefer that I own. It comes with a carrying pouch/case. The drill itself is pretty quiet, it's definitely less noisy than ones I've owned in the past from other companies. It's easy to hold in your hand. With the rechargeable piece in place, it's nicely posted, with the weight evenly distributed. It's seriously like holding one of my favorite fountain pens - a little bit of weight. The speed of it is sufficient for someone like me, a beginner-intermediate. And furthermore, the color is pretty cute! All in all, this is a great drill from MelodySusie. Read more
