Pricey but worth it

I’ve seen health tests like this online but have never actually purchased one. The others online were expensive and only offered a few tests. The biggest standout is the sheer depth of testing. It’s still pricey and likely not accessible to everyone but you do get so many tests for less than $400. This isn’t just a basic cholesterol and glucose panel, it covers hormones, inflammation markers, metabolic health, nutrient levels, and more. I plan try to get pregnant in the next year and having in depth testing like this provided so much peace of mind and showed me things I need to work on to have the best chance at a healthy pregnancy and baby. It gave me a much clearer picture of what’s actually going on in my body instead of just a quick “you’re fine” or “you’re not” summary. Yes, you can get these tests done at a doctors but it’s not likely that your doctor is going to order tests just because. In my experience, I’ve needed to actually have symptoms of an issue to warrant a test. I also really like how the results are presented. The dashboard is clean and easy to understand, even if you’re not medically inclined. Each marker comes with context and explanations, which makes it feel educational rather than overwhelming. The “targeted insights” are helpful too. Instead of vague advice, it points to specific areas you might want to focus on and explains why they matter. The annual membership model makes sense if you’re someone who likes tracking trends over time (and can afford it). Seeing changes between tests feels much more actionable than a one-off lab visit. It feels proactive rather than reactive. I don’t think I would be in a position to do so, but every 5 years or so isn’t a bad idea. A couple of things to keep in mind: this is definitely more in-depth than what most people are used to, so it can feel like a lot of information at first. Also, you’ll still want a healthcare provider involved if anything significant comes up. This doesn’t replace medical care, but it does give you powerful data to bring to your doctor. For those of us who struggle to feel like the health care industry really has your back, this can be your best friend. Giving you really helpful info to advocate for your needs with real data. Overall, if you’re into optimizing your health, tracking biomarkers, or just want more transparency about what’s happening inside your body, this is a really solid option. It feels modern, data-driven, and empowering. Read more

Intense testing, solid app, good price - considering the panel of tests you'll receive

This is a 1-year membership to the Function Health program. I picked this up thinking it was a "super intense" blood test - and it is - but the membership is a lot more. Let's start with the app - there's an app (and a website) that you use to register the membership. It wasn't super straightforward - when I used the include QR code it kept telling me the code was wrong. There's a separate link / site you need to use that redeems the code, then takes you through the registration process. That was the ONLY hiccup I ran into. Once registered, the app took me through sharing my health history, family health history, goals from the program. It also helped me set up my first screening appointment - there are two (one at the start and one at the mid-year check in). The app helps you find a local lab for your testing - mine ended up being a Quest lab - and once you pick your time and date, and the appointment is set, the app gives you all the prep-info that you need. (Things like when to fast, what to expect, etc.) As your appointment approaches, you'll get app alerts and texts to help prep you. The lab draws are typical lab draws - this kit is pretty much the highest level of membership that is offered. Get ready for a pretty intense panel of tests. In my case, I had 14 tubes of blood pulled and had to give a urine sample. Nothing surprising - the app prepped me for all of that. Results start coming in after 24 hours, and can take up to a few weeks to come in. Once the results are in, the program helps you set goals and targets. I'm sure that the turn around time will depend on the lab that's used (the program picks the closest one(s) for you to choose) but in my case the turn around speed was very quick. The cost of the membership is very reasonable, too - as I said, it includes two visits, and the panning and consulting once you get your results. Even if you don't take advantage of any of the programs - other than the testing - the cost will be much less than many out-of-pocket charges / copays /co insurance amounts. Yes, it's a lot of testing, and yes, many/most doctor's wouldn't order the level of depth in testing that this membership provides... but even for the basics (cholesterol, metabolism, etc.) - it's very much worth it. The app also integrates with your phone's health data - so I can integrate my Apple Health and Apple Watch stats into the health profile and recommendations that are generated. I can't comment if my energy level has gone up yet. I can't comment on the results of the consultation yet - it's a one-year membership and I'm just starting that process. But, if you're looking for insights into your health, this is a great program to join. Would I recommend? Yes. Just be prepared for (what will likely be) the most number of tubes of blood taken at any test you'v ever had. But the metrics you'll receive are well worth the aggravation. Read more
