Mephisto Womens Halina Clog

If you’re familiar with Mephisto shoes, you know that the quality, arch support, and comfort are top notch. I have a few pairs of their sandals, but I could only find this type of clog (something suede with more coverage and a chic minimalist design) at Birkenstock or Haflinger. I have problem feet (bunions, overpronation) and back issues, however, and the negative heel and uncushioned soles of Birkenstocks and Haflinger clogs causes me lower back pain. So I was delighted to discover these clogs that combine the perfect-for me classic Mephisto sole with a closed toe style. Keep in mind, however, that because the classic cushioned sole is thicker than that of the other brands, there is less vertical room in the covered part of the shoe—an excellent stylistic choice because otherwise they’d look clunky and unattractive, but it makes for a more precise fit with minimal room for a sock (a thin liner might work) so you’ll probably have to size up. The toe box is not affected and remains nice and roomy. I usually wear a size 9/39 in their open-toe sandals, but in these I had to go with a 10/40 and adjust the buckle. Suede softens with wear though so this might change after they’re no longer brand new. I’ve worn them a handful of times already and can tell they’ll only get more comfortable. Very comfortable right out of the box, relieves plantar fasciitis pain, I use them at work. They run small in my opinion. I wear a dansko 39 or 40, a birkenstock 39, I got these in a 40 and they feel a little small when I wear my socks with them at work. The Mephisto clog came out some years ago, and I still have my battered and worn originals. Looking to replace them, I ordered the same size, 38, which was called a size 7 when I bought my original clogs, but now appears to be called an 8. The fit in this 38 shoe is slightly larger overall, with a longer tongue, and the arch support, while comfortable and supportive, is a little bit lower arch than the original design. If I could have found a 37.5, I would have exchanged them, but with socks these will do. The color pictured is darker than what is actually the case, which is more of a light taupe. Overall, I really prefer the original Mephisto footbed, design, and sizing, and I'm considering sending my originals in to Mephisto to be rebuilt. Read more

Have bought Birkenstocks for years and will continue to do so. First time buying Mephisto’s and very happy with the comfort of the foot bed, the arch support and the style of the clog. Look and feel just like Birkenstocks, but Birkenstocks didn’t offer the style. Will definitely continue to keep Mephisto on my favorites list. Read more

I bought these to use as in-the-house shoes, to replace old Ugg Tasman's. These Mephisto are so much more comfortable and better fitting for me. I have many pair of Mephisto sandals, all size 39, and these in 39 are consistent with my older ones. I anticipate that I will wear these outside of the house as well as for slippers. They will bridge the season between open toe sandals and boots. I love that if you take care of them, put cork seal on the cork, that they wear so well and can eventually be resoled.
