Although I am very picky about my knives and sharpening, this is a great tool for touching up your knives edge while you're out in the woods. It also works very good for a quick touch up on your axe or hatchet and even for fish hooks. I would never consider using it as my primary knife sharpener, but when you're out on a camping or fishing/hunting trip, it works just fine for a quick touch up. Very easy and effective. What I use it for the most however, is as a ferro rod striker. It works amazingly well for that. I don't like to mar up my knives spine to strike my sparks if I don't have to, and this thing works so much better anyway! It will eat your ferro rod a little quicker than a knife spine or regular striker, but damn does it ever throw a ton of spark! If you can't get a fire going with this, then you might as well toss your ferro rod in the creek, because it obviously isn't your thing, lol. Would I recommend it? Hell yes. Would I buy it again? Hell yes., and in fact, already did! I keep one in my pack, and another in my tackle box. May just get another for the garage. It should work great on chisels, scissors, and hedge clippers! Best 10 bucks you will ever spend if you like to do extended trips to the great outdoors, and pretty handy to have around the house as well, for a quick edge touch up on pretty much any cutting tool. That being said, don't throw away your sharpening stones. That is still the best way for a full on sharpening. I'm giving this five stars because it's well-made, functional and doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is: an aggressive, carbide knife sharpener that will shave a lot of metal off your knife's edge. I can see myself using this again in some circumstances, but it's important to know what you're buying here. • My neighbour and I tested the Speedy Sharp on some extremely dull knives that couldn't even saw through tomatoes anymore. This tool (used by itself as per the instructions on the package) brought a cutting edge back to those knives. It is functional and it works very quickly but it will also shave your knives down significantly and give them a cruder, less enduring edge than regular sharpening stones would. • If you choose to use this, I recommend using a light touch (don't bear down heavily on the knife's edge with this tool). • Be wary of using this on knives that have even small chips or dings in the blade; I also tested the Speedy Sharp on a set of old knives that had minutely chipped cutting edges and it immediately and predictably deepened and worsened the existing irregularities. • I could mostly see using this on extremely dull and extremely cheap knives or blades that I don't particularly care about preserving long term. This could also be good for odd-shaped edges like lawnmower blades --- but even then a sharpening puck would probably be preferable if you hope to maintain those blades over the long haul. • This is not made for regular, routine touch-ups; if you're looking for a compact tool that will help you quickly touch up your dull knives without having to bust out a full set of sharpening stones, I recommend the DMD Mini Double Sided Pocket Diamond Ceramic Whetstone Knife Sharpener Abrasive Tools . Works GRRRREAT!!!! It doesn't LOOK like anything special or whatever at all but it works amazing! I mainly bought it for work to sharpen my box cutter razor blade so I don't have to waste money on buying new blades. I work in a warehouse and cut open and break down tons boxes daily. I don't need to buy blades anymore. Speedy Sharp is all I need. I been using the same blade for 2 months because Speedy Sharp keeps it sharp with just a few strokes daily. Gets the job done and affordably priced. Made sturdy and easy to store. The capabilities of this knife sharpener is solely dependent on the skills of the user. The carbide on the KS-1 is incredibly hard and sharp. It will absolutely sharpen a knife, but could also ruin the edge if not used correctly. Read more

Simple and fast tool to get a quick cutting edge to daily hard use knives and tools. Cheap kitchen knives, garden tools, scissors, etc were easy to sharpen to a usable edge again. Be careful with edges that have chips as this will not remove the chips when sharpening unless you choose to use hard pressure, doing that will remove a lot of material though so be cautious. Now you can use this on more expensive knives as well but I’d highly recommend against it. Stick to more traditional sharpening methods as this tool is too abrasive as it strips a lot of material.
