These work great, been using this model becuase it can be mounted out of the way and controlled with the handset and my applications have limited space available. The radios work well and even with the small antenna they come with we can communicate pretty well most of the time in my area. Over the flatter areas we have communicated up to around 10 miles and in the hilly areas of the desert its pretty good within 5 miles as long as one of the radios isnt down in a canyon - point is, good radio, works well. As a gift, my husband and I were given this base station radio and we installed it in our Jeep Wrangler which has been out fitted for rock crawling. First impressions: this little unit was super easy to install and use right out of the box. My husband loves radios and communication devices and has a CB, Ham Radio, and now GMRS radio all installed in the Jeep. He was able to fit the small, and sleek device easily among all his gadgets without taking up too much space. You can hardwire the radio into the vehicle or just plug it into the cigarette lighter (12v power jack). We used the plug in so we can unplug it if we are not going to be using it for a while. One other benefit is it has a USB port which allows you to charge other devices (like your hand held radios) while driving. It has 15 channels—half of which provide a higher power transmit (since it does not have a mic gain) to improve range and a small magnetic antenna which can be placed anywhere in your vehicle. It is also feels really durable considering it is a small, compact and sleek unit. We are not easy on our gear and we feel this unit will be able to take a beating the more we use it. Usage Impressions: My husband was able to test out this in a variety of situations. He tested range with his friend who was sitting at home (using a non-Midland radio) in Heber City, UT and Jeremy was driving. He was able to get about 10 miles in this situation with super clear sound and transmission. We also tested range between two moving vehicles driving on Highway 6 to Moab. The jeep obviously had the base station and I had a handheld X-talker in my car. We were able to get at least 5 miles between vehicles while both were moving and going through the winding canyons/mountain passes. We were also on the higher channels which boosts the transmission signals. One huge bonus was the volume of the speaker. It was loud enough to be heard clearly over the elevated road noise of driving a lifted Jeep at high speeds on the highway. He came through super clear on my handheld and I couldn’t detect much of the surrounding noise. Overall evaluation: we love this little unit. It just allows us to have another means of communication when we are traveling in the backcountry and cell reception is spotty. We will also use this station and hand out our handhelds when we are rock crawling in Moab just in case our CBs are not working so we can still communicate between vehicles. The sound quality cannot be beat and has the same quality whether you are using another Midland radio or a different brand. If you are looking to get a non-handheld radio that has awesome range, clarity and durability for a great price—the MXT275 MicroMobile base station is a great choice. Read more

great radio, works great. easy to install. one thing i would add to this radio is instead of jsut self taping screw to mount the radio. add in some small bolts and nuts. this would give more options for instalation for the customer. while yes the customer can always go buy bolts and nut to use. most may not know that the radio only comes with self tapping screws. other than that amazing device. very happy with it so far. Great radio, solid build. Could use some more volume but it works really well. You'll need a bigger antenna if you want any really long range comms. Took a sec to figure out but its good now. Read more

It is a good and reliable product that you can trust to keep it on in the car and not get too hot. The sound quality and antenna are good for 15 watts. The sound output from the speaker and base or both is excellent. The hand manual control panel made it very easy to use. The only reason I returned it was that I could not manage two channels at the same time. Midland is a great company over the years. Read more

I am not going to bore you with stuff you don't care about because if you are looking at this radio you couldn't care less about programming this thing with your computer or splitting repeaters. You are new to the hobby and are looking to put a radio in your truck/jeep/vehicle. Transmission Distance: Simplex: This is communication from radio to radio without the use of repeater. I placed the supplied antenna smack in the middle of the roof of my truck and turned the high power on channel 24. I was able to clearly communicate with my brother with the identical radio and placement 7 miles away. Behind hills, trees, houses, and all the fatsos inside them. Repeater: I am able to "kerchunk" (look it up) my local big boy repeater from my house which is about 15 miles and speak with others all over the city on it. As you get more versed you will hear about splitting frequencies but for what it is worth, I have not felt the need to as most public repeaters transmit and receive with the same tone YMMV. You will need to read the manual as the functions are coded due to the limited ability of the display, but it is easy once you get the hang of it. You may look at the antenna and feel like...eh? This is a 100% motion of the ocean vs. size of the ship situation. However you can swap out for the big one if you feel so inclined. Also, put it on the roof, don't block half of its power by mounting to a truck bed or in front of the windshield, come on guys. Bang for the buck is phenomenal, I use it every day because you can scan and hear all the drama at your local grocery store, restaurant, pet spa, basically anyone using FRS in the first few channels. I am nosey and petty like that. Light years ahead of CB. You will need a license but it is like $30 bucks for 10 years, and you get a cool callsign to ID yourself, don't cheap out it is easy. Oh and the people I have met/listened to on the GMRS channels have been super cool. I guess that's it. Great radio, has the fars! DO NOT RUN THE ANNTENA THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC CARWASH, don't ask me how I know. Read more
