It doesn't spread well on the skin at all—even when applied close to the body, it remains difficult to work in and distribute evenly. I purchased two bottles for a beach trip with three people, and we went through one entire bottle per day. Despite the generous amount we used (which should have provided adequate coverage), we still ended up getting sunburned. For the price and how quickly we went through the product, this is extremely poor value.
