No more STANDING UP to plug in stuff!
I was pleased to install this new USB-C hub, and it has an identical silver finish and appearance to my 2021 silver 24” M1 iMac. It also solves the challenge of front-facing port access by trading one high-speed USB-C port on the rear of the iMac with effectively four USB ports (2 @ 10 Gbps) plus 2 memory card slots in front. The branding is visible but minimalistic, and I like how the ports are identified so there is no confusion as to the speeds supported. The innovative design and angle of the drop-down U-hook framework allows it to fit snugly against the stand of the iMac, which is enhanced by the plastic stand-slot insert that came with the hub. The hub hung on my iMac body fine without the plastic sleeve, but I would say it was a more snug using the sleeve and kept the unit more secure against the computer when unplugging cords. A second and larger stand-slot insert was provided but not needed for my installation (assume it fits the 27-in Studio display). I tested successfully and was pleased with speeds in both the high-speed USB-C and -A ports where I synced my iphone and ipad to my iMac. I also ran my first Time Machine backup (since upgrading to MacOS Sequoia) on an encrypted external SSD (USB-C port) with no issues (>550,000 files). Although there is no external power to this hub, it did charge some of my lower wattage devices, like the iMac keyboard and an older phone. My 11” iPad synced fine, but as expected, it would not charge from the USB-C port. I also ran an external USB CD/DVD drive just fine through the USB-A 2.0 ports with no issues. So, in my opinion, it’s operating a little better for me than advertised with some low-level peripheral power and charging support. Very happy with this USB-C hub – I consider it pleasing to the eye and the pocketbook...and I don't have to stand up to see where I'm plugging my devices! Read more
