I’ve been recently trying this Molton Brown Tobacco Absolute Eau de Parfum (travel size bottle), which is appropriate as the temperature is starting to drop into Winter territory where I live. I’m a big fan of Molton Brown body wash for the past few years, and absolutely adore their more floral fragrances. I’m generally wary of fragrance where “tobacco” is the main note because I prefer more androgynous or unisex scents that don’t read “old man.” But I am pleased to report that this fragrance is much more complex and rounded than I’d imagined. It keeps the round floral undertones of tobacco but the primary scent when you apply it at first is definitely cumin. Yes, cumin. Turns out, it’s an intriguing peppery note that serves to make this much more interesting than a more traditional tobacco based fragrance. It’s dry and hot, reminds me of a hot desert night. Not especially romantic, more on the platonic adventurous side, when it comes to evoking emotions (at least for me). Indiana Jones having a drink after chasing bad guys through sand dunes. Ok that sounds pretty masculine in terms of description, and while a cool lady could definitely rock this, I still think it’s more of a masculine fragrance. I found the staying power to be a little underwhelming. It doesn’t last very long by itself, and it fades into a more well rounded ambery note. But what I discovered is that this works super well when layering with other fragrances to add a sophistication and fiery earthy energy. It’s been really fun combining it with more floral, dainty fragrances I have (lots of spring and summer fragrances I own, that have, like, jasmine and violet kind of notes) and it does a great job of balancing them and making them stellar fall/winter versions of themselves. For that reason, I’m mostly using this in combination with other scents. If you don’t have other things to mix with, you might be disappointed in this. But I found that its simplicity is actually its strength when paired with my other favorite fragrances. Read more
Wow! I had normally used the fiery pink pepper from Molton brown but grabbed this tobacco one since I tend to like woody fragrances and I’m glad I picked this up! It’s warm, woody, and slightly sweet, but also has a spice to it. I get a good, strong, long lasting scent from this as one spray is enough for me and lasts all day. It’s such a cozy, inviting scent, and it’s powerful without being too dark or overwhelming. This had become my new scent for this autumn and winter. Read more
Despite the other notes present in this fragrance, the tobacco is really the star of this show. It's warm and earthy without being sweet. There are green notes from the cedar and patchouli that keep the scent from being too heavy. Tobacco, for me, is a note that is very easy to get wrong. This cologne gets it right. The top notes are bergamot, ginger, and a sprinkling of heady wine. The middle notes are tobacco, of course, orris, violet, nutmeg, and cedar wood. The base dries down beautifully to patchouli and balsam that are a little smoky and grounding. I really like how this scent wears. Despite being a tobacco-based cologne, it wears close to the skin, with very little projection. That makes it perfect for office and day wear. It lasts for a few hours on the skin and a bit longer on fabric. It would be a good gift to fragrance lovers who want a different take on tobacco from the usual tobacco blends with vanilla and amber (which I adore, so don't take it as a dig at those combinations). This fragrance gives a dry, woody take on tobacco, and my overall impression is that it is interesting but a little unusual. It leans more classic than sweet, so it will appeal most to people who prefer a traditional, more mature style of scent. On first spray, I notice the ginger and bergamot, which add a sharper, fresher opening than I expected from a tobacco fragrance. The tobacco shows up quickly and stays throughout, but it is not sweet or creamy. Instead, it is dry, slightly powdery, verging almost on dusty. The nutmeg and orris add to that effect as well, while the cedar keeps it firmly in the woody category. The base settles into Peru balsam and patchouli, which feel warm but still restrained. The overall vibe is refined but old fashioned, almost like walking into a well kept study filled with polished wood and dried tobacco leaves. It is not a cozy, gooey or sweet tobacco, so it may not suit someone looking for a gourmand or smoky pipe style. Performance is moderate. I get several hours of wear, and the projection stays close to the skin after the first hour. For the price, I think it is worth trying if you want a fresher and drier interpretation of tobacco. It has good quality, but the scent profile is specific, so it may not be a universal favorite. Overall, I think it is just okay. I appreciate the craftsmanship, but it felt a bit too dry and dusty for my personal taste. I would recommend sampling it first if you are curious about a different take on tobacco. Read more

I already tried the body wash with the same scent, so it's no suprise that I loved this one too. It smells fresh, a bit smokey, and is easy on the nose. It doesn't last as long as I would like though, only about 3 hours on the skin. I think it would make a nice gift for someone. The name sounds a bit on the masculine side, but the scent is firmly unisex. The price is really low for an authentic Molton Brown product. Read more
I've bought similar scents & they were good but this smells like straight up ass when sprayed. It smells nice smelling it through the sprayer tho. Even my husband thought the smell was awful. I like the travel size to take it with you on vacation. It lasts all day. Price is a good price point at $30 if only it didn't smell like ass Read more
