Solid. I have a thin desk (5/8") and was too cheap to get a spacer board or anything. I didn't screw in all the way and used a drill for a pilot hole. Template was super easy and a good idea. This comes with a template, but you can just install this on your xbox and measer the distance between the bracket and mark it on the surface where you're mounting it.
