Ive tried a lot of different matchas over the past couple years, from grocery store brands to higher-end Japanese imports and MURU honestly surprised me. The color is bright and fresh, and it whisks up smooth with no bitterness. Flavor-wise, it’s nutty and has subtle floral notes, with that mellow umami you only get from real ceremonial grade matcha. This is a perfect blend for lattes and it gives clean, focused energy without the jitters. Solid quality for the price, this is definitely going into my morning rotation. Read more

I had originally written a negative review as my first experience was not the best, upon further reflection I believe as it was summer and my package was delivered while I was at work the matcha oxidized a little thus making my powder quite yellow and not very pleasant. I was so sad but I am happy to report that the brand reached out and apologized and offered to send me a new tin in hopes I’d have a better experience and I did! The matcha was a bit brighter, and overall a good matcha for beginners as I didn’t really get many notes. Which to me is a good thing bcos then I can flavor it however I please and the taste will be mostly focused on the flavor of my choice! It’s quite smooth and froths up very beautifully! I’m giving it 3 stars only bcos I am a bit of matcha snob and I love nutty and chocolatey notes. This was a bit umami and nutty but nothing crazy. Please give it a try if you’re looking for a good beginner matcha or an everyday matcha that won’t break the bank! Read more

I see it as perfection. The absolute best in quality and taste. For those of us with limited hand dexterity it is an easy to open small tin container that seals nicely for preservation. Makes the best iced with its smooth flavor. Will definitely buy again. Read more

I drink matcha prepared traditionally as usucha (tea bowl, hot water and a whisk) every day and have tried over a dozen brands from cheap junk (my first purchase before I knew anything about matcha), to higher end. In Japan there are no culinary and ceremonial grade classifications, that is western hype. While color usually is a good indicator of quality, it's conditional, because different cultivars of tencha, the tea used to make matcha, come in different shades of green, shade grown before harvest or not. I DID like that in the photos they show the three cultivars used and the COA with test results. That and that it is first harvest, shade grown and stone ground are the reasons for the three stars. I was unable to find any additional information about the product despite searching. As for the tea itself, I made it with the usual 2g tea in 2oz (NOT 4oz as suggested) of 170F water. I didn't get any of the promised "tasting notes" or " rich umami". There was no sweetness, not even in the aftertaste, which is a sign of a good matcha. It is a bit bitter and astringent, and that remained in the aftertaste too. Just sat on the tongue afterwards. I enjoy a good matcha that does have just hints of bitterness and astringency, but soften into sweetness in the aftertaste, this didn't. It wasn't chalky or gritty, but not particularly creamy either. It didn't have a particularly "matcha" flavor, no looked for vegetal-green pea, seaweed, or grassy notes. I know that often organic matcha is not as strongly flavored as non-organic, but I have had several organic matchas, and this one is just not that flavorful. The dry aroma was not impressive, even within minutes of breaking the seal, something you should always check. If you are going to make lattes, or use it in food, it will be fine, but there are other better, more for your money brands to pick instead if you are doing that. As for me, when i see a matcha listing that says it's a "Superfood Energy Boost" and "Pure, powerful, and deeply grounding", it's not matcha that I smell.... Read more

I've only recently started making matcha at home, but I've had a lifetime experience of drinking it. This one didn’t really feel "ceremonial grade". I know color isn't always a great indicator, but MURU was very dull against my previous can (which was *not* a super high end brand). The smell matched the color, dull and very muted. It did whisk up OK, not clumpy. The taste is slightly fishy/tinny (which I personally don't hate but is not a traditionally desired quality). Very dull and flat. It reminded me of culinary grade matcha. It was heavily on sale, so if someone sold this to me as a really decent culinary grade matcha, I'd have no problem with it. Read more
