I’ve enjoyed the Prosper’s cocoa with extra caffeine added, and jumped at the chance to try this mushroom variety. It necessarily has some caffeine because real cocoa powder does, but I don’t actually feel the caffeine with this mushroom version. I prefer only dark chocolate over milk chocolate, and this one is rich & dark, even using half milk & water. Anyone who doesn’t like dark chocolate will likely want to use all milk to mix with the powder. The standup bag has a zip closure and includes a convenient measuring spoon for one 6-8 oz serving. I used my electronic mixing mug to combine hot liquid with the powder, and it was smooth within 30 seconds. At first I noticed the different ingredients in this blend – a hint of mushroom – but soon all I could taste was delicious chocolate. It feels very indulgent to enjoy rich cocoa and still get the great benefits of mushrooms/superfoods. There are also very few calories, as it’s sweetened with coconut. I love knowing this treat is so wholesome! The current price of $35.95 sounds steep, but this large 11.5 ounce bag makes 30 servings at just over $1 per serving. Other brands of mushroom cocoa sell six ounces for around $20. Traditional cocoa packets may cost less, but they’re just made of cocoa, sugar, and milk. I’d much rather order this mushroom cocoa and enjoy its natural benefits. I also appreciate the single bag here, that doesn’t produce a lot of paper waste. The expiration date is two years out, but I'm sure it won't last that long! I highly recommend this Prosper mushroom cocoa for its delicious flavor, healthy ingredients, and low calories. Read more

Today is my second day trying the Mushroom Cocoa. It is packaged in a resealable package which I really like because I tend to like a strong cocoa flavor so I can add more for a stronger chocolate taste. Directions say to use one scoop with 6-8 ounces of hot water. It also states that milk or creamer can be added to taste. I had a fairly large coffee mug so I used 2 scoops of the mushroom cocoa. To make it simple, I just used the 12 oz hot water setting on my keurig (w/o a K cup) and used a handheld frother to make sure it was mixed well. The taste is somewhat musky, but a definite chocolate flavor. Not exactly hot chocolate flavor, but close, and with only 30 calories and no sugar. It seems like a healthy alternative for those looking to watch calorie intake, and carbs. It has 4g of Carbohydrates & 1g of Fiber per serving. I am not a coffee drinker so I do look for alternatives for my caffeine fix. This does not list how much caffeine is in it, but is made with real cacao powder, therefore it will have some caffeine, even if nominal. I'm not sure I'll be able to use this mushroom cocoa for a caffeine fix, but will definitely work when trying to warm up on a Winter day! Read more

This mushroom hot cocoa drink has a lot going for it, with several powerhouse mushrooms and being sweetened with Monk Fruit. My first try of this mushroom cocoa was to mix it with hot water as the instructions said. My opinion of it was that it was ok, but not my favorite. I have tried a few different mushroom hot chocolate type of drinks and have a favorite that I continue to purchase frequently. This one was not close to making me want to purchase again. I decided to try it with half almond milk and half water. Definitely an improvement! Still not quite what I wanted so I tried it with all almond milk, heated to the perfect temperature before stirring in Prosper Mushroom Cocoa. I used my whisk, and it became a creamy, luscious hot chocolate drink that was perfect! I think when I mixed it with water only, it was perhaps a little too dark chocolate tasting for me but with the nut milk, the flavor tempered into a milk chocolate taste that I prefer. I also decreased the amount I used. While I still use the scoop included, I don't quite fill it to the top so that it is less than the suggested amount. This amount is to everyone's personal taste, so if you aren't quite a fan the first time, experiment and you may just find your new favorite hot chocolate drink! Read more

I received this mushroom-based cocoa as part of a promotion because I wouldn't have thought it'd be something I'd like. Well, I was wrong. The package says it has enough cocoa for 30 servings of one scoop each—a scoop is provided in the pouch. Although sweet, but not too much, it's low calorie because it uses monk fruit extract as a sweetener, not sucrose or an artificial sweetener. The milk chocolate flavor is definitely there, but I'll be honest and admit I can also taste a bit of the muskiness of the mushroom ingredient. The package labeling lists a number of supposed 'superfood' supplements, including lion's mane extract, cordyceps extract, Reishi extract, Chaga extract, turkey tail extract, and Ashwagandha. As near as I can tell, this is a general purpose 'fortified' cocoa mix in that it's supposed to help improve focus and energy, provide immune system support, and assist with stress. That all said, as my photos show, I made some and it tastes good, provided you don't mind a wee bit of mushroom flavoring. As far as dissolving goes, it took some effort to stir all the little lumps out, but I eventually managed. I just used plain water, no milk or creamer, and I thought it was fine. Anyway, I rather liked the serving I had and will no doubt enjoy the rest over the coming chilly winter weeks, and at a calorie count that won't bust my diet—bonus. Read more
