Betta fish approved!

Beautiful piece of driftwood! I would consider this product betta fish approved! - Disclaimer!! All driftwood will leech tannins!!! People complaining about coloring just didn’t follow the proper processes - you have to have the patience to boil or soak it for a long time. I only boiled mine twice and there are STILL tannins after about a month or so 😆 Tannins are great for betta fish so I’m not bothered by this whatsoever. However, if this does bother you, just make sure you follow the proper procedures to make sure it doesn’t. -Good size, i bought the larger piece and the top of the wood almost reaches the surface of the water AND i still have room for my other decorations! I have a 10 gallon tank. -Unsure why people are complaining about dead fish and fish safety, I’m willing to bet those people just threw it into the tank after receiving it in the mail. I wouldn’t worry about those reviews. My fish is perfectly healthy and loves swimming through the holes. -I consider it good value! A lot of similar products cost more $$$. This driftwood is so beautiful, it’s my absolute favorite decoration piece! 100% recommend for your fishies:) Read more

It turned the aquarium water red!

It is a beautiful piece..however the tannins it releases is horrible! Followed the instructions on soaking it is hot water then leaving it for a week soaking and it did not stop leaching a red tint into the aquarium. I’ve boiled it over 5 times and it’s still releasing red tint! It’s awful. I took it out of the aquarium! ***update***I’ve been soaking it everyday for the last 2 weeks, changing the water every day…it’s still red. Also my son’s Beta fish died last week! She was healthy until that drift wood was put in there. Read more

Perfect for tannin loving fish!

Perfect for Betta tanks! There are so many tannins in this wood! My betta love the red water it provides and on top of that the wood pieces themselves are gorgeous and make great hiding and resting places! The photo is right after I added the wood pieces so the water hasn’t had time to change. It’s also a 36 gallon tank for size reference and the large piece is in the left and the small is on the right. Read more

My snails moved back in!

My netrite snails have been escaping my tank almost daily for about a month. After boiling for an hour (5 times) and soaking the driftwood (4 days), I added it to my tank. The snails have moved back below the water line and are loving life in, on and around the driftwood. It’s good size for my 10 gallon tank as the centerpiece. It can be oriented several different ways. It’s a solid piece of wood but there are grooves from where it was cut. It’s obviously a chunk of a large piece, not a complete piece that is naturally severed/rounded. Even after boiling and soaking like the directions instructed, it till turned my water yellow. No biggie because my snails are loving it - but if you care about crystal clear water, keep boiling and soaking longer than the directions suggest. Read more

⸻ This is a beautiful piece! I bought two—one smaller and one bigger. They are each unique, so I’m the only person who has these exact driftwood pieces. Speaking of driftwood, this is a very solid piece of red-toned wood—could it be mopani? It is absolutely gorgeous in the tank. I only keep driftwood and some plants for my décor, and these pieces fill the bill nicely. One star is missing because, as has been mentioned, the red bleed-off from tannins is intense. The red is so thick and dark you can’t even see the wood after soaking in hot/boiling water. It’s not that sepia-colored tannin look you tolerate from other woods—it’s like Satan tea. I soaked and soaked, and finally I got too excited to wait, so I put it in my tank while also adding two bags of Purigen. This has left my water still clear enough to see, but it looks like light tea. Without the Purigen, even in my sixty-gallon tank, I would not be able to see through to the fish. I’m okay with this for a while, but it should certainly come with a better warning. Still, if you’re looking for wood décor, this is a solid piece that’ll hold up over time Read more

My fish love it

My fish love it. It looks great in the tank. The only thing is make sure you boil it because it releases a lot of tans into the tank. I had a lot of problems with it, making my tank super dark and having to do lots of water changes the wood qualities is great. It’s a perfect size and my fish love to hide in it. Read more

Do not put in a fish tank!!!

Beautiful piece BUT NOT for a fish tank! After boiling it at least 6 times (no exaggerations) and soaking it in water for over a month while changing the water every day, the water was literally still RED. No way I would ever put this with my fish. I just gave up and cannot use it. Waste of effort, time, and money. Disappointed. Photo shows the last boil. Read more

Do not use in an aquarium

I've worked with aquariums with wood ornaments for over 60 years and realize, if not pre-treated properly you will end up with tannin tainted water. I've never had a problem until I ordered this very beautiful wood ornament. I pre-treated as usual for several days and and placed it in my aquarium and almost instantly the water turned a dark orange. In panic I ordered special charcoal filter cloth that indicated it would remove tannin color from the water...but it didn't so I have been slowly doing water changes for 3 days to try and remove the orange water. While this ornament is just beautiful I strongly suggest NOT being used in any thing where it is submerged in water like an aquarium, even after treating it. Best used in critter cages/dry aquariums. Saddens me, because it was just beautiful in there. There was a flyer included with it warning about the tannin problem, but I had worked with wood before and thought I would not have a problem after pre-treatment....I was wrong..live and learn.
