This is my first replacement filter for my New Wave Filtration System. I've had this system for a year now and I figured it was time to replace it even though it's just me that uses it because my water SUCKS ... I have well water that has lime AND rust and often has sediment in it. My cat got a bladder stone before I started using one of the Pitcher filters ... after years of fiddling with them I decided to get a full on 10 stage filter and I don't regret it one bit. These filters really do take all the smells, sediments, and other undesirable stuff out of the water. Believe me, if it makes MY water palatable it really IS a good filter! Getting the housing undone was a little bit of a challenge. They suggest that you use vinegar and water soak to get it loose ... I used that, then got a small hammer and TAPPED around the area of the threads as well as downward on the bottom of the housing. I also have a strap to un-do an under-sink filter that we have in another area of the apartment and used that to help me get a grip on the housing so I could loosen the bottom and get the housing apart. Once it was undone it was simple to change the filter, though I did find that the inside of the housing needed a bit of a clean. They suggest putting Petroleum Jelly on the threads to make loosening the housing easier next time around. I am a reviewer but I bought this at full price. Whether I pay full price or receive an item for a discount, all opinions are mine alone and reflect my personal experience with the item. Read more

Love these 10-stage water filters. Been using these for about 4 years and love how clean and clear the water tastes. These are the best on the market for the money! Very easy to deal with since you change the filter just about once a year--we like to change it more often. Make sure you put plenty of vaseline on the threads when replacing the filter cartridge for easy changing the next time! And don't over-tighten it--that makes changing the filter a bear! Let the water run a good 10 minutes after changing the filter--you'll see some of the charcole dust in the water at first but after about a minute it's all flushed out. While you don't have to let the water run for about 10 minutes, I do because the water taste gets better when a new filter has been used a bit first--to me, anyway. Read more

I used this filter and cartridge in the kitchen on a daily basis for all drinking and cooking, and filled bottles of filtered water to use at the bathroom sink, also for face washing and teeth brushing. The incredible quality of the 10 stage filtered water was beyond expectation and it lasted well over a year - a year and a half, I believe - until a replacement was needed. That equates to far less than buying filtered water, wasting gas to shop, plastic containers, etc. The filter itself is very easy to attach to a standard faucet. If you live in a hardwater area, the faucet screen is easily removable to clean calcium deposits. I brought the filter along with my during several moves and has been one of the best purchases I ever made - truly a healthy life saver. Please be sure to soak it well as the instructions guide before using a new replacement for the first time so that it is most effective in filtering what you consume. Read more

If you have a New Wave Enviro housing, this is a replacement filter that will work for it. I used to buy replacement filters for mine at Wh*le F**ds, but they stopped carrying them. I wasn't sure if this would work for me, but I gave it a shot, and it fits perfectly. My city water is clean, but I don't like the taste of it. This filter makes it taste like the finest purified spring water. That's what I want, and that's what this product delivers. That is to say that I'm interested mainly in TASTE. If you're picky/concerned enough about water quality from a chemical content perspective to desire certification on a filter, than maybe you'd like to pay $500 for something like this: Multi-Pure Countertop Water Filter - Certified for Arsenic Reduction! . While it's nice to know that such products exist, $60 covers my concerns just fine. If I want to get it done, I think my city offers in-home water quality testing - yours might too. (This is in reference to a reviewer who, I think unfairly, gives this filter one star for not being something that it doesn't claim to be.) Bugs me when people give misleading negative reviews because they want a product to be different from what it is. Read more

When I first purchased NWE 10 Stage filter over 2 yrs ago, replacing the filter every 9 months, I was satisfied with its results of yielding good tasting and seemingly clean water. However, my most recent filter purchase seemed much inferior to previous ones. I also noticed the 10 layers looked slightly modified. Now my water has a heavy chlorine taste so bad that I am now considering other brands and other methods to make sure the water is properly filtered. . . . A month or so later, after receiving a filter replacement, I called the company to ask about the new modification. More important I asked about what it removes because the new filter did not eliminate the chorine or chloramine that it actually made the water taste worse. I was forced to add fresh lemon. Finally I decided to resort to Aquasana which I previously used. Meanwhile I was hoping to go Berkley or Alexapure, but neither can be sold in CA or Iowa without NFL certification. I called the company on it and the customer service admitted not understanding this enigma either. The claim another 3rd party rated the result high raises serious questions about why not obtain NSF certification instead in order to be admitted into CA? Is there anyone who can offer solid evidence on any countertop filters' performance to meet or exceed NFL standards? New Wave made that statement but must be false unless I'm missing something here. Any suggestions on where to go from here? Read more
