As an avid fan of the Nier series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the latest installment, Nier Replicant for PlayStation 4. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! This game takes you on a soul-stirring journey through time with its beautifully crafted world and emotionally charged storyline. The attention to detail in the characters, environment, and music is unparalleled, making it an absolute treat for the senses. The combat system in Nier Replicant is fast-paced and engaging, with a variety of weapons and magic at your disposal. But what really sets this game apart is the multiple endings that depend on the choices you make throughout the game. It adds a layer of depth and replayability that is hard to find in other games. One of the standout features of Nier Replicant is the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack that perfectly complements the game's themes and atmosphere. It's a true masterpiece that will leave a lasting impression on you long after you finish playing. Overall, Nier Replicant is an absolute gem of a game and a must-play for any fan of the Nier series or action RPGs in general. So grab your controller, immerse yourself in this breathtaking world, and prepare to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster that you won't soon forget! Read more

I would rate the game 5 stars, but gave it 3 because didnt receive the pre-order bonus like many people here. This is what I've done so far in trying to resolve this issue: I contacted AmazonHelp via twitter and they gave me a link to fill out for support. Received email from Amazon stating to contact them. Was able to connect via chat, kept getting transferred to different people via Customer Service chat as none could help. The last person i chatted with stated that Square Enix is supposed to email us the code, but that didnt make sense since I purchased it on Amazon. Chat transferred me to a call with another Customer Service and I explained the issue and how many people online and in the game review section have this same issue. They stated that they will submit my issue and since many people have the same issue, hopefully it's being investigated further. Then they stated that I should receive notice via email within 48hrs, if not to call back. I contacted Square Enix and they stated Amazon issue. Will update when I get any news. ***Update*** So changed my rating to 5 stars for the game but would give Amazon 1 star for the preorder bonus issue. Square Enix states this is Amazon issue since they have preorder bonus codes for the game. After contacting Amazon via chat and phone multiple times again and them giving me open ended responses or passing the blame to Square, I saw on twitter that you have to reach out to Amazon's Promotions and Marketing team. I emailed them that this need to reach the Promotions team as regular Customer Service has no Idea, I provided very detailed info on the issue and screen shots of the product specifically stating preorder bonus on their website (lucky i took them before they removed it) and also told them that others resolved this issue by Amazon sending them the code. After they finally emailed me back with the code to download the PS4 preorder bonus material. Read more

Disclaimer: I did preorder, like, as soon as the listing went up. I haven't gotten a code as far as I'm aware. Tad annoying but I can live. And play the game! Amazing! Never would have thought that was an option! All passive aggressiveness aside, game is great. It's probably exactly how a "version up", as the producer put it, should be handled. It's in that nebulous space between remake and remaster, and honestly I don't find much interest in the semantics. The redone soundtrack is a banger. Love the expanded voice acting for ALL dialogue, and there's quite a bit for that. Gameplay is slick without being as expansive as Automata. I mean, not every dev studio can be Platinum. But it feels good to kill things. Almost as if that might factor into the narrative somehow, I don't know. That narrative though lives rent free in my brain along with Automata, but that should be no surprise for those familiar with Yoko Taro's work. You really need to experience it firsthand. Read more

I'll start off by saying that I played Automata first and played it through completely on PS4 until I maxed out the clock and got the platinum trophy. I loved Nier:Automata! So I had to play this game since I missed out on the entire PS3 era when this game first appeared. This game is clearly a more primitive one from an earlier era but plays similarly to Automata as far as fluid combat goes. I really enjoyed some of the boss battles and most of the combat was really fun. The voice acting is mostly good (Grimoire Noir is painfully bad). I was initially annoyed by the British Grimoire Weiss voice but later warmed up to it as some of the dialogue exchanges are pretty funny. The character Kaine seems under developed and I never felt a strong attachment to her even after playing through ending C. I was hoping to be able to play as her for a portion of the game to feel more attached to her story. A lot of her story is told through long text sections. The main drawback to the game is the constant zig-zagging busy-work/tedious side quests along with the small map size that hits a loading screen every time you enter a new area. It gets really grating by the end of the game. The different areas are really small and the loading screens start to become a consistent annoyance. Despite these issues I had, I really enjoyed the story and played it for around 50 hours up through ending C (sadly, I saved over the save file and will have to grind out the 2nd half of the game yet again for ending D!). I can recommend it to anyone who is already a fan of Nier:Automata to see the connections and evolution between the 2 games. Read more
