In book two of the Restoration Series, the Brannings continue to have their hands full as they struggle to adapt to life after solar pulses have knocked out electricity, technology, and made modern conveniences inoperable. Oldest daughter Deni is still pining for her fiancé, Craig, who remains in Washington, D.C., but her life has been altered by the harrowing journey she undertook in the previous novel. Readers will note her maturity and strengthened relationship with God. The neighborhood is coming together through Doug Branning’s Sunday church services and in communal efforts like digging a well. But not all communities are as fortunate, as the Brannings discover when their food supplies are targeted by two young thieves. Oldest son, Jeff, tracks them to an apartment complex where piled garbage and backed-up sewage is commonplace. The boys are two of four parentless siblings whom the Brannings take in—not without animosity and resistance on the part of the oldest child, Aaron, who has assumed the role of provider since their mother vanished. The infusion of the children, especially ten-year-old Aaron, and three-year-old, Sarah brings a new dimension to the character interactions. Things really ramp up as the missing mother’s past is slowly revealed and two unsavory characters with ties to the children cause complications. Aaron is the pivotal character in this book, both belligerent and protective, wholly convinced he is beyond God’s love. There is plenty of danger at the end, and in a side plot, Deni is forced to into a decision about Craig and Washington vs. her family and remaining where she is. I truly love the Branning family and the group of secondary characters in their neighborhood. The story packs so much between the pages—strong character relationships, mystery, suspense, a hint of romance, and most especially, beautiful testaments of faith. I’ve already bought the two remaining books in the series and eagerly look forward to seeing how everything plays out! Read more

A heartwarming story of trials, and faith leading the way to survival. I thought the first book in the series was great, so this one must be rated phenomenal. I appreciate the authors style and incorporation of Christian values in a world that has drastically changed due to truthful & possible events. She must continue to write these books for us now that we are hooked! I found myself angry and saddened, not by the book but by the fact that I was too busy with life to finish it in one night! I look forward to the third and forth books in the series. What intrigue this author has stirred inside me to ponder the “what if’s” this should occur and my responses to it. We were not effected by Harvey but were enlightened by the devastating destruction of lives and property. As we were watching the news report that rainy Sunday, I communicated to my husband we couldn’t just keep watching and do nothing! So off we went in search of a Christian shelter to volunteer and donate. Houston STRONG! GOD IS GOOD and speaks to us; we just have to LISTEN! Read more

I had picked up the first book (and the third and fourth) in this series at a garage sale. I like that the book holds my interest and intrigues me to continue reading. The background work that Terri did helps the book seem like it could actually happen and brings life to the story. I do like the integration of characters both believers and non-believers. There is a time coming when this kind of chaos will be more reality than fictional, whether or not it will be caused by an EMP. The series reminds me much of the end days that John has written about. It is a good series to read, there are also group discussions at the end of each book that can be used if you read them for a group. Read more

The first book in this series is so good, I wasn't sure how Terri Blackstock could top it. But she did. She really managed to flesh out some of the characters a little more, and give us some real insight into their personalities, hopes, and dreams. I like the way she's making the character Deni grow up right before our eyes. She's becoming someone I'd like to know instead of someone I'd like to throttle, like in the first book... LOL The part of the story surrounding the four children was even emotionally difficult to read because of the realism. (But don't let that stop you!) The older brother is another character she fleshed out quite well. As always, I would recommend any book by Terri Blackstock. If you're looking for realistic adventure/drama that is clean and edifying to read, she's your author. I appreciate the way she always weaves in some strong spiritual growth into her character's lives. I'm looking forward to future books in this series! Read more
