This is a nice charger. It has a flip-out plug, so with that and the retractable cord, it would be easy to pack for travelling or carrying around. When the plug is folded in and the retractable cord is stowed, the charger has a simple box shape (2.75 x 2.2 x 1.3 inches) with rounded corners and edges and with no protrusions. The retractable USB-C cable works well. It is easy to pull out and locks into position even if only partially pulled out. When retracted, the plug fits into a depression on the side of the charger case so that it’s not sticking out at all. There is a translucent panel on one side of the charger that lets you see the coiled-up cord inside. The product description mentions “transparent housing” and “tech aesthetic,” but all you can see is the coiled-up cable, not any circuitry. (On the black charger with the black cable, it’s not even that easy to see the cable.) The charger also comes with a separate USB-C-to-Lightning cable that could be used on the USB-C output port of the charger. Something to note: There is no USB-A output on this charger. For me, this means that many of my charging cables won’t work with it and that I’d need to buy some new cables if I were going to use this charger for any of my Micro USB devices. The flip-out plug also works well, with a good solid feel. Because of how it’s oriented on the device, it’s going to take some space above and below the outlet you plug into, possibly blocking any adjacent outlet(s). It might not even fit some non-standard outlets (e.g., outlets built into the base of a bedside lamp at a hotel). I charged a 10-inch tablet from 5% to 100% in a couple of hours, using the retractable cable from the charger. This is a fine speed for charging this tablet completely, so I’m happy with the charger’s performance at its main job. As is typical for GaN devices, the charger runs cool while working, not really even getting warm to touch at all. (I really like this, as it seems like a warm charger could become a hot charger under the wrong circumstances.) Do you really need a $57 charger? That’ll be for you to decide, but if you’re ready to spend that kind of money and your goal is to be able to charge one or two devices, this is a very nice charger with some good travel features. Nillkin IceCore’s retractable charger is pretty impressive. Pros: -retractable type C cord. -includes a lightning to type C charging cord -an extra type C port -the prongs are foldable -it’s 65 watt The material on the extra lightning cord is this cool feeling silicone & it charges my older iPhone as fast as its old as5 can charge. Cons: -Retractable cord is only 29 inches long. -65 watts is probably not enough for a MacBook + anything else I do wish that the retractable type C cord, was longer than 29 inches, but that seems to be pretty average. Somethings to consider, if you are purchasing this for your MacBook, check to see how many watts your model needs to support fast charging. Most of the newer ones are 65 watts, which makes this charger perfect. Unless, you are also going to be using the extra charging port at the same time. In that case, both devices will be sharing 65 watts, which wouldn’t be the worst if you’re also using it to charge your AirPods (5 watts) or Apple Watch (18 watts) or even an iPhone 15 or older (20 watts.) If you’re looking for a retractable charger for your newer iPhone & MacBook, understand that your iPhone 16 uses 30 watts & your MacBook likely uses 65 watts, so 95 watts should be the minimum, & that would make this charger insufficient, or at least not future proof. Looks exactly as in the pictures and charges pretty fast...HOWEVER.... I am a little concerned at some of the comments below with how this may affect my devices, especially with my experience so far. While it does charge expeditiously, I don't really notice it charging any faster than other cheap speed chargers on the market. And I have noticed that it does run warm at times, which I don't like, as it's not supposed to do that, right? So yeah, it's cool as it has a retractable charging cord alongside another charging port, and it does charge at good speed...but I am not sure if my phone or other devices are suffering for trying out a new piece of tech!?! 🤷 TBD...I'll update if anything changes, but it won't be my main charger, just in the rotation. The Nillkin 65W USB-C charger boasts an attractive and relatively compact design, with a retractable plug that makes it ideal for travel. However, its actual power delivery performance is problematic. Using a USB-C power monitor connected to my Pixel 9 (at 20% charge), I observed a significant issue. Both the built-in USB-C cable and the USB-C port consistently delivered only up to 19W before abruptly cutting off. This cycle of ramping up and cutting out repeated continuously. This behavior strongly suggests the charger is attempting to negotiate a Power Delivery (PD) contract but fails to sustain the agreed-upon power level. For comparison, I tested several other USB-C chargers with the same setup, and all of them achieved a stable, constant power output without this disruptive cyclic behavior. While this intermittent power delivery might not always be overtly noticeable on the connected device, it's far from ideal as it introduces unnecessary wear and tear on your electronics. Due to this significant performance flaw, I recommend considering alternative chargers. If you do own this Nillkin charger, I highly advise using a USB-C power monitor to verify that your unit does not exhibit this same problematic behavior. Read more
