For many, a smart phone is an investment, and so it's natural that we want to protect this investment, especially considering the price. But how much protection one really needs depends on the lifestyle they lead. For most urbanites, only minimal protection is needed from bumps, drops, and shock. This level of protection can easily be covered by cases made of Silicone or TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), and PC (Polycarbonate). These cases offer the least amount of bulk and can easily be manufactured in a variety of colors. Contrary to belief, clear phone cases are not made of clear material, rather they're made of a yellow material. A dye is applied during production which makes them clear. Over time, as the material degrades, it will return to it's natural yellow color. Several factors affect the rate at which the material degrades. Oxidation is probably the biggest culprit to a TPU case turning yellow. Ultraviolet (UV) rays, extreme changes in temperature and humidity, and heat (including heat from your body) all gradually break down the polymer and allow yellowing to re-occur. Aside from oxidation, handling the case also causes yellowing. When your natural oils come in contact with your case, it may release bacteria, which will yellow the case. This is why many cases with "Microban" advertise "Anti-yellowing". The "Microban" coating is anti-bacterial, thus contributing to slowing down "yellowing" from bacteria (they don't tell you this directly, but it's how it works). Yellowing of these types of cases is inevitable, and if you want to prolong or delay its onset, clean your phone regularly with soap and warm water (and by regularly, I mean every couple of days - for sure no less than once per week.) For a more thorough cleaning, you can use a stain remover like baking soda. To kill germs, wiping it down with some isopropyl alcohol will do the trick. Keep your phone case away from direct sunlight (UV rays), and avoid extreme heat. For many this type of maintenance is too much and with the relative inexpensive Silicone/TPU/ABS/PC cases, it's more convenient to get a new case rather than maintain one. This case set by NITITOP is very cute. To be honest, I have every confidence that this case will provide the protection it claims. And I also fully expect this case to yellow over time, the question is how long? 3 months? 6 months? A year if I'm lucky... Lastly, from a fit perspective, the case is top notch, the buttons on the side of the phone line up perfectly, and the cutouts on the bottom for the charge port and the speakers are better than most (see pics.) This case also supports the use of 3rd party screen protectors (see pics). I've used this case only for a couple of days now and it held up well against everyday use. I had your typical drops and bumps, even a toss here and there, but nothing major.
